Latest build.
My first build from 100% new parts, except for the saddle that is and not a single Shimano item on it, mostly SRAM. Nothing against Shimano, just wanted to do it. Definitely could have bought an equivalent bike for less but I wouldn't have had near as much fun. Frame and tires came from Nashbar and most of the rest from Ebay and Amazon. My K2 hybrid is now my "all around" bike and my TREK 830 all around bike is now my snow and ice bike. The old snow and ice bike got slicks in place of the studded tires and went on CL.

The new "beater", it has a rear rack and lights now.

Except for graphics and boots the forks are identical but the K2 fork is more firm. The Schwinn fork is still in question, besides being slightly softer it's kind of squeaky, it may get replaced with a rigid fork if it doesn't quiet down after I get some more miles on it.

Took it for a ride right after posting this and the left crank arm worked loose and won't stay tight now no matter what. It comes loose within a half a block. I ordered a new SRAM crankset and TruAtiv BB to replace the Vuelta crankset and FSA BB on it now. I put the same Vuelta crankset on my wife's bike a year ago and it has given us no problems, I didn't like the looks of the BB when I installed it, should have followed my instincts. This was the first non-Shimano BB I have used other than BB's that came with the bike. I'll try the Vuelta and FSA in something else down the road but not together.

700 X 35 on the Schwinn, 700 X 32 on the K2.
After doing some comparison rides I've decided to sell the Schwinn and keep the K2. The Schwinn turned out really nice but it's not that much nicer riding than the K2 and the K2 is a lot more versatile so the Schwinn would probably just sit and collect dust. The Schwinn now has a 48-38-38 SRAM crankset and TruAtiv BB which solved my loose crankarm issue I posted earlier. I stripped the accessories and swapped out the saddle, grips and pedals for something more "basic" since those are the items most often replaced.

Thank you very much. Hopefully I'm getting better at it and each one turns out a little nicer than the previous one. I have some Classic & Vintage road bike projects that I hope turn out as well.
