What an exhausting day! I rode (if you can call it that) 40 miles. Started around 9am to do my hilly route and just felt stomped right from the start. My legs were so fatigued. Sometimes this feeling fades so I went on, but it didn't really ever get better. The hills nearly killed me.
At about 20 miles I thought it felt like I had a flat tire I was going so slow and I looked down and I DID have a flat tire! Can't complain.....my first flat of the year. Changed that while sweating buckets. Wondered truly if I could finish. I did finish.
I think it was the heat that did me in. I also rode yesterday and ran Monday so I've been out in the heat a lot and it seems to have a cumulative negative effect.
Glad to get that ride in but it wasn't a real confidence builder for DLD Oh well, I'll survive and my running is going well so I can always run my bike up those hills!
Leaving town again tomorrow. Hoping to get a ride in over the weekend. Crystal

+1 - on the heat. Really killed me on my commute the last two days. I've just been dragging butt. Times are horrendous, and I feel like I have no energy.

Cheri's been worried about the rolling nature of the Lancaster metric in August, so I have been taking her on routes that require some climbing lately. Today, I took her on a 36 mile out-n-back on the metroparks' Valley Parkway, from Brecksville to Wallace Lake and back. 2300ft total elevation gain (700 feet over the first 4 miles). Temps upper 80s to mid 90s. She did great!

8/3 - Commute in. Only one way today. I have no power anymore. I have even resorted to stopping to check to see if my brakes are rubbing, or tires are flat. I have nothing. I can ride forever, but just nothing fast. I just feel like I'm dragging my butt around for the sake of dragging my butt around.

After Tuesday's ride of 23 miles, I have not been on the saddle since tyring to recover from the crash that bruised my left elbow, abrasions on the right elbow and some cuts to the knee. I was cruising at 15MPH when I decided to switch from the road heading to the MUP through a side street when the newly resurfaced road was uneven with the street. It was dark and didn't see the condition of the road and it was my first twilight ride for the season. I hit the pavement hard with my helmet thus saving me from serious injury to the head. Just taking it easy for now until I am recovered. It's terribly hot out there and the reason I tried a late afternoon ride. For those who are out riding in this weather, make sure to bring plenty of water and hydrate. Safe riding to all.

Allright! I just put my number in the computer from this morning. Yes I felt slow and dragging, but I missed my personal record for the commute by less than 30 seconds. I was actually hauling butt.

31 miles this afternoon. man, riding in the heat is much better then running in it. i thought i was going to die yesterday, while today i loved every minute of it.
however, i think reading psimet's recent post about being sick has gotten me sick. who gets sick in the summer********** sucks, but feels like a cold/flu thing again like i had a couple weeks ago. well, minus the 103 degree temp.
i plan to ride and run through it. so take that mr cold/flu thing. later.

8/4 36 miles 17.1 avg
Weather was perfect for me. Temperature was good, no wind and overcast.
Flatland training for the DLD is right on schedule. I should have a good shot at making it to the first rest stop next week.

8/4 - Yes. Final real ride prep for the DLD a week from today
54 miles mainly by riding stages 2 and 3 of the HHH 200k route backwards (the route, not my bike... I'm not that talented). My legs didn't feel so great the second half of the ride.
I did get a new personal max speed, though.... 54.3 mph! Barlow Road rocks on the descent. Then I paid for it by riding east up Observatory, then turning around and riding west up the other side of Observatory back to climb Barlow. 54.3 vs 4.0 mph on the ascent. Ouch!

8/4 - Kicked Cheri up to a 45 miler today, just over 1700ft of climbing, average speed 16mph - I think she's ready for that metric.

40 miles with my team. First weekend in a long time when there werent any nearby races.
And it was in honor of my 50th birthday, which was too cool!
Good, fun ride, and it was early so we beat the heat and humidity

You haven't lived until you get to ride at 10mph for 2-3 hours. It's a zen like exercise.

8/5 - No.
However, had a good time watching the Elgin Criteriums this morning and afternoon. Cat 5 and Cat 4 races in the morning, took a break to do some yardwork, then went back to watch the Cat 3 and then Cat 1/2/Elite race in the afternoon.
Lots of fast riders and tons of cool gear. The Roadie section of bikeforums would drool over all the neutral support Zipp 404 wheels in the pit.
Maybe I'll get bold and give the Cat 5 race a shot next year.

No- had a 6:15 tee time-pouring rain- back to sleep.
9:45 decided to go for a 6 mile run. After 3 miles I thought I was going to die!
Never thought of leaving air conditioning after I crawled home.
I will get out for some afterwork rides starting tomorrow.
