Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I 100% totally agree. Such a simple thing, riding a bike, with such profound effects on your life.

You wouldn't lie about your churches, would you? 'Twould be a difficult thing to determine, but I don't see your godless west coast measuring up. There are several nearby churches that have got to have memberships well north of 1,000. The Catholic Church has a high school, and it's not even the largest one.

I can already tell we'd need better gearing on the tandem to do it plus more hill practice. The scary/exciting part is that, because this is a loop, we would have to ride down the same hill at the end. I have driven down this hill and walked down this hill. I tried to ride down it very early in my cycling career but wimped out because it is so steep. Nevertheless, I have often thought of how exhilarating it would be to ride down this hill for that very reason. Is it completely crazy to be contemplating this sort of ride so soon after taking up the tandem? And how might my life have been different had I fallen under LoP's influence earlier in it?

If it makes you feel any better, my right elbow still hurts from when I crashed my bike back in November. And I cracked my down tube and had to replace my frame. Plus had some weird heart rhythms post-crash and had to wear a heart monitor for a bit.

But on the bright side, I fixed the broken frame and now have a spare. And never had to actually stop riding my bike, so as crashes go, pretty benign, I guess.

Still though, even though **** happens, I really like to ride my bike.

Perhaps because of that, the site police have mostly let the place go. Whereas the 41 is subject to over-moderation, that place has the opposite problem. For a long time, posters got away with blatent copyright violation. Although they finally cracked down on that, they still allow people to start trollish threads on every thing that comes up in the news.

Does a person need to start three or four threads a day? I think not.

Finally, the name calling. This site purports to have rules, yet most are ignored there--unless you report.

In short: open up the forum, moderate the threads, and crack down on trolling/name calling. P&R would get better.

Here's the one mile radius. The ones with schools are out in the burbs, not enough cheap land downtown.

I ground my elbow down to the bone, that was two years ago on the 11th. It was my mom's birthday, I surprised her with that. It still bleeds if I hit the scar on something, or especially if I rub it across a desk or rug or whatever. It's really great.

Ok, that's officially worse than mine. I just jammed my elbow (amongst other things). It was a big impact but it truthfully didn't really hurt that much. I remember seeing the crash unfold, knowing it was going to be gnarly and then being a bit surprised at how little it hurt, which was pure 100% luck. Magic Bike took one for the team that day.

In my case, it has to be cycling. I was a confirmed couch potato until I found the bike some years ago, and I looked it, as well as probably starting down the road to an early demise. I'm very happy where I am now!

Yeah, It was bad. Fortunately I didn't break a frame. I did however break a chain, which was the cause of the crash. An all-out sprint that suddenly has no resistance on the pedals will do that.

I replace my chains often now

...it was designed with exactly the intentions you criticize, sir. The original intent was a little hidden backwater to which the gunz/abortion/politics/religious belief threads could be deported, thus allowing easy disposal of such things in the hope that the maniacs who start them would follow them in there and stay lost with them.

Nobody wants P+R to "get better", you adorable young curmudgeon. If they did, it would. It was mainly the recently deceased former Administrator who kept it as his personal zoo and experiment in social order. Even a brief review of the history of that place ought to tell you that.

The rest of your response seems to indicate you agree with my analysis "because trolling", so i don't know what else to say. This is a bike forum. It belongs to a corporate entity, Internet Brands, and they use it for advertising revenues. Were the thing to be opened up as you suggest, they would quickly get rid of it, because it would cost them money when people were put off and the page views dropped. Don't assume a bicycle cycle forum requires a P+R section just because it's been there for a while.
