Crazy. Back in NYC, I met a former audio industry guy that still made the rounds. His name was Alex and he also happened to be the holder of the record for the fastest drive from NYC to LA (yes, the "Cannonball Run"). He lost that record a handful of years back, but word on the street is that he just smashed the standing record in the most James Bond-ian fashion.

I soon need to start the search for a newer bike for my dad. I was thinking a 2010+ modern aluminum with 105 groupset. He rides a old 7 speed steel motobecane from the 70's. The main problem is the lack of gearing options on his old bike. The old combo is a 40/53 or 40/52 with a 13-28 rear cassette. The small ring (40) and the big (28) is not close enough to comfortable for the hills we go over. New gearing would be easy, if we could find compatible parts. Looks like I need to make a post in the mech forum.

Ahhh, the joys of olde French bikes. Could start by measuring BB spindle, see if you can get a road triple or even just a 110mm double that'll fit that spindle length.

I don't want to tackle the triple route, the triple screams weak cyclist on a road bike. Well not really but it will probably be too much money and work for the results.
