Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tube issue (?)

It's brand new michelin tube, one of the group riders I was with gave it to me since I had a double flat hitting a pothole. When I was pumping it, I heard a pop! Found a small hole in it and I've just got around to patching it.

Is this normal? after I pacthed/pumped it, one side of the tube is way bigger than the rest, should I worry? or is this fine?

It's a tube, not a kidney. I think you can just throw it away and be sure of not having any problems. Looks defective to me.

If it holds air it's fine. The tube will take the shape of the tire it is in.

Tubes are made by the thousands. Small variations in wall thickness cause the uneven expansion when outside the tire.

Lol, I don't want to throw a brand new tube and I don't want to get a blow up on the road. That is why I'm asking the more experienced fellas here. Someone might of came along something like this in his riding days.

Cheers for the comments, I've put it on the front wheel and shall update if I get a blow out and land on my face and live.

think of what happens when you blow up the balloon types that are made for making balloon animals (ie. the long sausage shaped ones). If you've never done this; well... you can make a resolution to do so a couple days from now.

It does not matter, once you install the tube the tire casing will keep the tube in shape. Once the tube is pumped up it will distribute the tire pressure evenly through out the inner tube. But the bulging likely means the material is thinner, it will be more puncher prone if you happen to roll over something sharp in that area.

I would use it.

I'm trying to figure out what's so funny. You have a patched, defective tube that you got for free, and you are treating it like a prized possession with sentimental value. Oh wait, I DO see the joke.

Just ****can it and get on with your day.

First of all, it's not free, the dude got paid to get another one. Second of all, why are you getting all worked up over a tube? you stated your opinion, get along with your day. Other people say it's fine, but I guess your word is rule on this forum?

I was simply curious to see if this is a common occurrence.

Meh. Sometimes people just have to comment on every thread. No wonder you got over 16 thousands of them.

Not common. But as others pointed out, the shape is held by the tire so it should work fine.

p.s. ignore the pen-man....we can call him the pedantic man. He means well.

I have a friend who patches tubes and give them away. I give him all my punctured tubes.

I see that on occasion, and I would not hesitate to use that tube.

Few if any tubes will over inflate evenly. The more you over inflate a tube the larger the discrepancies will appear too. I have run patched tubes for thousands of trouble free miles and cannot tell a patched tube from a fresh one while riding. All my flats have been punctures or pinches and the like and patched tubes flat at the same rate as fresh new ones. Have never ever once had a glue on patch fail even quick and dirty ones done on the side of the road in the rain.
So, upon further consideration it looks as if the OP has a normal tube with a well proven puncture repair. And yet you feel the need to insinuate that the OP is a joke or doing something a bit short sighted?

What's your point? He asked for opinions. He got opinions. All's good as far as I'm comcerned.
