Age Distribution of about 200 50+ Bicyclers

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maturity is overrated Fredly. To quote the late S. Jobs:

'Stay hungry. Stay foolish'.

Cycling will help you with both of those.

As somebody said above, cycling can be like a fountain of youth.
The British Journal of Medicine just published an article looking at different forms of exercise and increase in longevity associated with them.
Cycling and rowing were the two best. The advantage required 1.5 hrs of exercise per week. Hell most of us here average that a day.

I'd tell you to bite me, but that would only leave me with another health condition that will baffle modern medicine.

I live in the deep south, if I used metric speed I would get beat up by the rednecks here. I never said it made sense and wouldn't let them think that, but it is humorous to me.

I started riding with a local club this year that is led by a guy in his early 70's. I turn 50 this year, and this 70 something is nothing short of an inspiration. Great guy and a great rider. He actually won gold this fall at the Master Nationals in the 70-75 category road race. In a word - AWESOME! There are several other senior riders that join in club rides from time to time that are really fun ot ride with. Great guys who can really scorch the pavement.

I turned 60last year and I have decided I am content for the moment with where I am.

I have become a reasonably good rider, I am reasonably strong, my endurance seemsto be better than ever and I am even getting on better with my wife (actually Ilove her dearly). Given all of that I have decided that I do not need a newversion next year, just an upgrade. Therefore I have resolved I will be 60.1this coming year as I just need a few updates not a new OS. We will see howthis goes but I am not anticipating the need for another system for some time -maybe ten years.

For the recordmy wife and children do not agree (all that laughing is annoying) but stubbornnessin the face of facts is a family trait so I will persist. Now let's see, whatwas I planning on doing next…?
