Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In bike news, the Scapin is on the road again. And stripped again after failed painting attempt (at least the second time is way easier). Gonna brush on some clear when I get a round tuit.

Or maybe I'll just see exactly how high maintenance a bare steel frame is. This will be my sun bike, after all.

Need to get some 3d violet bar plugs and chainring bolts. Will take some time to fret about bar tape colour, of course. Probably gonna ditch the cranks for the Record cranks on the Park Pre.

Billy, I'm so sorry. It's been a roller coaster these past few months, but there's a reason Moose decided to fight as he did. A strong testament to you and your wife. I wish there was more to say, but you two are in my thoughts.

I decided to go with Downtube shifters after reading https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...-shifters.html

Decided nay on the coloured tires. Sorry @coasting . If it makes you feel any better as you see above I'm a card carrying member of the stubby stem association.

...if I ever get over the loss of my last one and decide to get another dog, I'm gonna stay the hell out of the addiction thread.

Sorry, Bill. I think if I ever have another dog die on me it will break what little resolve in life I have remaining. It just hurts like hell.

That you so much you guys for your kind words and sympathies. It's comforting to know that people you regularly associate with not only share your grief, but can fully understand that a dog is not just a dog, but is a member of your family and a part of you. It's going to be a struggle to deal with the emptiness this big guy leaves behind. I know it wasn't his idea, he prolonged things as long as he could. His time has come. Thanks, again.

As a sad commentary on (primarily my) life, I consider the Addictioneers as friends. Granted, I also wonder if colored urinal cakes are flavored.

What about brake pads?

Is that an 80mm stem?

A tenet of the Stubby Stem Association is that one must never share actual stem measurements on the internet

Latest Zympho thread. I would link, but it would make me feel dirty.

I think you should let "the little lady" pick all of the colors on the Scapin.

Wat????

She won't even let me put a reasonable -17° stem on the Lemon!

Besides I already have some chianti Deda tape in my cart. Maybe I should consult with her before finalizing order...

@Heathpack, thanks for the kudos!

As for peeing on the bike... sadly, for the mid-pack Ironman racers, it's pretty common. The faster ones are too dehydrated and finish quick enough they just don't pee, and the really slow ones don't mind stepping into the port-a-potties, but the ones who want to be fast (but aren't) dread the thought of "wasting" 2 minutes to pee like a civilized human being.

For what it's worth, I've never done that. I've had Olympic distance races (2:10-2:20 for me) where I had to pee the ENTIRE time because normally we all pee in the lake while waiting for our waves to start (just don't think about it while you're waiting), a couple of races do time-trial starts where you start on land and run into the water, and I can't pee while swimming. I'd still rather hold it for two hours than pee myself like I was born last year.

We watched Camper last week while his family went to Breck on Spring Break. Camp is always welcome here. He's a great dog. When Camp went home, he started acting like Moose. Huge tumor in his liver. He went down today. RIP buddy. I looked at him last Friday and thought, this is the last time you'll see this dog.

Damn.
