Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

He went down today. RIP buddy. I looked at him last Friday and thought, this is the last time you'll see this dog.

Damn.

I will tell my poor old puppy Milky, whom I firmly believe is the greeter at pet heaven, to give them the extended tour. I still get choked up thinking about him. Had him from when I was eight to 24. Best dog in the world.

Nice, that one's off to a smashing start. I noticed his potential a couple months back - he's not afraid to come off as arrogantly opinionated at one moment and preciously ignorant shortly thereafter. Good to see that he's been able to work them in at the same time.

So my Record 11-25 arrived in a week. New mailman left the card because no one was home. I saw him the next day and gave him the signed card directly. A few weeks go by and USPS can't find it. Idiots.

I get a nice email from Alicia at Ribble today. It was returned to the UK and she wants to know if I want it sent back. Yes, please.

I am pretty sure I shared my last Ribble story:

Package gets delivered to my house, even though customs was due. Clearly labelled that I owed $46. I went down to the post office to pay it the next day, and they had no idea what I was talking about. Then come to find out they don't even have "customs due" in their billing system. I paid it as general postage. The receipt sits prominently in front of me as I type this, waiting for the customs folks to refuse shipment of my next Ribble box.

.. @coasting is awake and posting over in the P+R, but he appears to be very grumpy.

I suggest that anyone choosing to interact with him today be prepared to go the extra mile to cheer him up.

I was hoping you had mistyped a homophone and it was going to be a ribald story. I'm disappointed it was not.

...it's too bad they won't let me tell some of my fire department stories in here. I have one that involves a naked 300 # female amputee. True story.

We were doing a background check on someone who applied for a demo position at our company...this is basically just us googling their name.

We stumbled upon this lady's google plus page, which is loaded with pornographic photos of her and various men. Apparently, she has a feature turned on in her phone, that backs up all of her photos to google drive and then to google plus. I don't think she's aware of what is being posted online. We also found a ton of photos of handbags and her arrest record...arrested 3 times for shoplifting...which most likely explains the bags.

Needless to say, she didn't get the job.

Sorry, but if there's a donkey in it the story is instantly moved from the ribald category into one I'm not supposed to know about as a lady of refinement.

The woman who is training to be my boss is also new to Walmart- but not to retail- and has become increasingly frustrated by things like not having a personalized password which everyone else received the first week of training, no one recognizing her name when she calls the office, superiors who schedule meetings with her then don't show up and don't call, being assigned projects that should go to someone a level lower than hers, etc. Today, she invited me to eat lunch at her table at Subway and spent the whole hour venting. I think she's looking for a friendly ear and a shoulder and feels like we're kind of in the same boat since we're training- if you want to call it that- at the same location. Also she hasn't gotten the best reception from the folks at the other stores where she attempted to train because she doesn't come across as very friendly. (She is a self-admitted accumulator/hoarder of tablet computers and said her two dogs prefer her boyfriend- even though she adopted them and they knew her first- because he is "more fun".) I'm getting the feeling she'd like to be perceived as more outgoing and assertive and that's why she's sharing all these irritations with me specifically. But I'm not used to this degree of familiarity with supervisors and I'm wondering if it's going to work for me or against me once we get into our actual store. Or am I overthinking this?

As well, the one time all day he went out to the bathroom I had to help him to his feet before he could get up. His eyes were really sunken in to the back of his head and I knew that was a bad sign. Sunday night he made no attempt to come upstairs with us at bedtime and stayed downstairs overnight. He never ate all day.

Yesterday, again he ate nothing all day, neither did he drink anything all day or go to the bathroom all day, and his eyes were filling with mucous, and I knew deep down it was time to let him go. I started to call the vet yesterday but figured I’d give him one last opportunity to pull another miracle out of his hat. He slept most of the day, feebly lifting his head to look at me occasionally, and periodically shifting position, but he never got to his feet. He couldn’t. Last night when he couldn’t get to his feet even as I tried to lift him, I knew it was time to let him go.

This morning my wife and I carried him to the car and took him to the vet and we lovingly said good bye to my loyal best friend and companion and sent him home to be with Star, the only other dog he ever befriended in his life. He was a tough and courageous dog to the very end.

This thread has had three recent canine family pass away lately, hopefully this will be the last for awhile.
So sorry to hear. Very sad. Bailey sends condolences too. ^..^
