Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So if the Polish cycling team is verboten, how about Nicole Cook?

I lost my Mom, Renate Kierey (she went by her maiden name) last night, she passed suddenly, I was down in NJ all day making arrangements. I'm the sole heir (I was an only child) and she was 80, not ill, but overweight, high BP, cholesterol, etc. They listed 'natural causes', she was face down next to her bed, we're all assuming cardiac arrest, stroke, etc., some major cardiac event, hoping she didn't suffer (probably not). I lost my Dad in March and my dog Sam less than 12 months ago. Rough year.

Sorry about your mom, @patentcad. This is the kind of year you find out what you're really made of.

Peace to your family.

Thanks for all the condolences. In six months I experienced both ways to lose a parent: slow, long illness (my Dad), sudden loss (my Mom). The sudden loss is more shocking, but far less suffering for the deceased and the survivors.

Tough losing your parents. Can't bring them back, I have to do the right thing by them going forward.

Antiques, opera, and her grand daughter Renee. Part of her estate will help my kid get through the 7 years of grad school she'll require to earn a full blown psychology doctorate. Pcaddette was very close to her Omi. So the sliver lining of all this is that my Mom left behind enough for that. We all would have preferred she had lived long enough to spend every dime on herself. We will all miss her so much.

You can seem to be full of yourself sometimes, pcad, but under that veneer you are good people.

Condolences from us, too. Broken heart syndrome is now recognised as a possibility in these circumstances.

We now have in our possession two Bike Fridays, custom built for us. We like very much. It took seven hours, including two hours with fellow forumite Doug64, and the whole day was a load of fun.

Pictures are coming when Machka has finished processing them.
