Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I agree and I refuse to buy from them.

At least they bring the cookies in first. We often are approached with the form to sign up for several boxes, and the parent expects to get the money up front, cookies come a few weeks later. Several other fundraisers for the kids are handled the same way. I think its much better to bring in the child and let them do the selling. It's a great experience for them and a feel good for you. Otherwise the parent goes home and tells their kid how many boxes they sold for them today. Yep, it's a racket.....

It was nice here today and I could not ride with the team because of all the crap I need to do to get ready for the moving van this week. Project moving to pilot, wife and dog leaving in a week... stress level is at DEFCON 2. Really could have used a ride.

Tried and failed a workout this morning, couldn't focus... did Zwift this evening on the rollers. That worked, some fellow Zwifters harassing me on the first interval was just enough to get my head clear.

I guess this Zwift thing is ok.

I got sunburned today.

Something is wrong.

Also, I'm fine with most odd cycling tanlines, but I'm not a fan of the permanent helmet straps I have now.

Some MN culture for you. High School hockey is big. The HS Hockey State tournament is huge. What could be bigger? The hair. Here's the 2015 All Hockey Hair team, along with some great honorable mentions. The commentary, btw, is just as good as the hair, so make sure you've got some volume. Go to the 1:00 mark to skip the preamble and get to the hair.

Terrible. After my two TTs yesterday, I had nothing left. I pulled out before I got dropped, I was cramping pretty bad.

At the end of my race there was a decent sized crash, one kid dislocated his shoulder/broke a finger(s) or something. Glad I avoided that

Sort of. The wind coming off that snow is frigid, and for some silly reason, I decided to ride a bit of the Morgul course. Of course, that goes right by the NREL Wind Research site. I never really did get warm.

It was my first crit in 2 and a half years, since I crashed bad I kinda got out of it. So I guess that's okay, since I'm getting back into it.

Scary course, and if you aren't willing to corner like you own it, you get to peg it 3 times a lap. Good job staying out of trouble!

Yeah, I actually liked the course but I didn't have the confidence/power. Also, seeing the lap card say 40 to go really wasn't motivating.

That was the fastest part of a race I've ever done, and holy hell those tires I just glued got a good testing.

Zomg. I'm glad CX and STXC lap boards never get that high.

The first time I raced that crit was with Cat 4 kids. The previous year, I stayed away from that course, as I had heard bad things. I did two crits that day, with that one being my second, and two the previous day, so I wasn't expecting much. The crit before was on the long course, so instead of turning left at the first roundabout, we went through it, and around the lake. It was almost a two mile course, so the short course was a rude awakening... They drilled it from the start, and folks were shelled left and right. If you can imagine, the field was full, at 75 riders. I finished with the lead pack, and up to that point, had never ridden so hard. It was a blast, and I have never been so thrilled with a top 25.

I wish we had wide shoulders like that! If we're lucky enough to have a bike lane its usually very narrow. Then again, I'd imagine these shoulders also allow the snow plows to push the snow off the road into a portion of these shoulders until it melts. Looks like the freeze/thaw has wreaked havoc on this road.

Daylight Savings Time, plus a downpour, is making the day suck. Did not go running this morning. Swimming will be nasty if I go. Bah.

The shoulders are wide, and that's the road that was in American Flyers. The old Morgul Bismark course, that's still used every year. As you say, the snow gets piled up, then the rocks and slag get left behind as it melts. It could be worse.
