Another suggestion would be the book by Mel Allwood. Mountain Bike Maintenance The Illustrated Manual. She also has one for road bikes. Looked around and this one fit my needs better than the others....

I went with the planet bike hardcore freddy fenders. They seemed to be the best choice for me with the mudflap on the bottom. They fit well and work really nice.
