Binghamton NY area commuter killed by drunk driver
I woke up to hear on the radio that an area bike commuter, Bradley Murray, was killed early Sunday morning. Not many details are available yet besides he was driving home from a late shift at Frito Lay when he was hit on the shoulder of Upper Court Street (which is part of US Rt 11) in Kirkwood. The driver of the car had a previous convicted of a DWI within 10 years so he was automatically charged with a felony. I'm not real familiar with that area as it is on the other end of the micro-metropolis that is Binghamton NY but from memory it does seem to have some wide shoulders, but it also is a high speed road (depending on where he was hit, when it gets more commercial the speed limit drops). No news if the cyclists had lights on or reflective gear. I don't know Bradley, but it sure is sad news. Here is one story on the crash: https://www.pressconnects.com/article...arged-with-DWI
Another story has what I assume is a photo of the person who ran into the cyclist: https://binghamton.ynn.com/content/to...it-and-killed/

I hate some of them, anyway. No knew information on the news yet besides that it happened in the 700 block of addresses. Blow is a link to the middle of it. Usually they release the blood alcohol percentage. Since they didn't, they may have done a blood instead of breath test (The Blood goes off to a lab and takes weeks to get back from what I'm told). Unfortuaetly the local press around here mostly just repeats what is in the press releases (not that it is really the reporters fault, there just isn't a lot of reporters left around here with the demise of the local media) so I'm not sure if we will get more information unless friends or witnesses say something publicly).

I took the liberty of doing a copy and paste of the OP to the Wall of Remembrance.

The sad thing is Bradley's aunt had just been killed while on a bike ride in October, she was riding on the shoulder in broad daylight and a car just plowed into her from behind...

I used to live in Binghamton and commuted all the time by bike. Where he was hit can be pretty desolate since it is a few miles from the main city. My family would sometimes be worried since I worked overnights, but I never was. Sad to hear.
