Hello, I spotted this bike outside a Los Angeles public library,is it a good brand? i think i am getting into MTB this spring to get more of my blood flowing,thanks in advance.

Insanely heavy, fork was crap (compressed hardly an inch), shock was even more crap... (coil came out of contact with the...rest of the shock.)

Bottom Line : CRAP.

If you're planning on getting in to mountain biking I suggest getting a hardtail. Full suspension makes up hills tougher. Also, if you've seen the front suspension on department store bikes, you'd know that the rear can't be better. If you're looking for an entry level bike and you have a budget I would go with this order (which I wish I would have followed, I went straight to step three): 1)Check your LBS and try out a few, whether you can afford them or not to get a feel for the type pf bike that fits you. If you don't find one within your price range then 2)check Craigslist for some in your area, that way you can test ride it. If you still can't find one within your price range and you truly truly can't wait to get into the sport long enough to save up enough for options 1 or 2, then 3)go ahead and get a dept store bike. I know I'll take crap for this, I honestly don't see the problem with a beginner getting a dept store. It's a relatively low risk investment, because if you don't really like the sport you didn't drop a lot of cash on it. Also, a beginner's abilities aren't going to require the best suspension, just enough to even out the bumps. I mean they used to do everything on full rigid back in the day. Finally, when the beginner is no longer a beginner and the bike holds them back or breaks, the rider can actually make full use of a better bike.

P.S. There are definitely some department store bikes to stay away from, like anything that has a car or dirtbike name on it.

I believe this is one of the "bikes" that fall into the toy category. It's not really meant for doing mountain biking, and I bet there's a sticker on the top tube that may warn one not to use it for such.

well ... I wouldn't suggest it as a first bike ... neither for a second or third bike
You could wait a bit and keep your money to get an entry level hardtail from Trek, Specialized, Kona or any other well known brand.
OR get it and ride it till it dies ... if it is really heavy, well your legs will get stronger.

Well guys, thanks for the inputs and advices,all are welcome here. I think i will buy a cheap MTB and ride it until i learned the rope again, then i am going for a "Real" MTB, may be another Trek.A man in my age (53) ,i can see my physical ability is limited, so i have to take it slow,as for now, i will look at the Xmart MTB , the good thing is coming for me, thanks to all.

Hi, my current bike is 17.5 inches and my inseam is 32 inches,doesn't seem to fit right on a 18 '' size, i looked up on the Trek 2009 model and it only cost about $125 more than his asking price, i think i might just go ahead and get the one from Wallyworld.

If you're set on this, the best thing you can do is to ask them for an unassembled bike so you can put it together yourself. You will probably do a better job than any store clerk. If that's not possible, check all the bolts (don't overtighten anything), grease things that need to be greased (seatpost, headset, bottom bracket, pedals) and add some chain lube to the chain (probably the single best bit of maintenance you need to do to keep the bike running for as long as possible).

And don't forget to take it off some sweet jumps (seriously though I wouldn't recommend it unless you weigh 90lbs or so)
