Excruciating inner thigh pain -- and solution!

I went on a metric century group ride day. I pulled into my first rest stop @ about 28 miles with a pain at the very top inside of my left thigh. It was a bad stabbing pain while riding, but far worse when I got off the bike -- I could hardly walk and I was fighting back tears. I did some stretches that helped only slightly. Not knowing anything else to do, I checked my seat and the nose was EVER SO SLIGHTLY pointed to the right. I'm talking maybe 2* where I had to close one eye and very carefully sight along the bike to even see it. Well, I nudged it perfectly parallel to the top bar and the pain subsided in two miles and didn't come back during the next 35.

I have a new-found respect for the quest for symmetry.

Have you ever experienced cramps before? Sounds like that's what you had. I'm not sure if changing your seat position actually did anything for you. How long did you stretch/rest before getting back on the bike? Seems like that did more for you than you give it credit for.

All I know is that I straightened the seat and it promptly went away. It was real bad at about mile 30 when I pulled in and when I rode out 10 minutes later with the seat corrected it promptly went away.

I have ridden a lot further and in 100* weather without ever having this experience.

But I understand that just because A happens, then B happens, does NOT necessarily mean A & B = cause & effect.

I hear you there. In another thread, I mentioned how simply changing my position on the seat and tweaking my pedaling motion, I can 'ride out' a cramp. Popping some Tums always helps me as well.
