Anyone know of a good shop in the Murrieta/Oceanside/San Diego or South OC area that could properly face an American bottom bracket on a cr-mo BMX frame?

This seems to be quite a feat nowadays.

I'd also like to get an aluminum head tube faced but the bottom bracket is my main priority.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I'd check with Chuck at Pacific Coast Cycles first. He's a bearded retro-grouch, so if you go down there expecting immediate service (for him to do it right there while you wait) or ask for a discount, please don't tell him I referred you.
If Chuck is too grouchy, there's also Cyclart in Vista. The admin office isn't super fast or efficient, but Greg and the crew in the back do excellent, meticulous work.

Have you asked any of your local shops if they can do this? Maybe it's just me, but any shop that cannot do this should not be in business. It's like being told the mechanic can only true them your wheels, but not tension them. If I had the tools, I'd offer to do it for you.

Thanks for the suggestions! I talked to Chuck and he was extremely helpful. Really nice guy and he took a genuine interest in my cause. I haven't talked to CyclAart but I think I'll talk to them too and see what I can find out. Thanks again.

Oh yes, I have asked everyone imaginable. Initially I thought the same thing, that this should be no big deal, but apparently it is quite a big deal. Thanks for the offer to do it for me. That certainly is nice. Heck, if I had the tools I'd do it myself!

LBS's ain't what they used to be. But then bikes ain't either; a bike used to last and it was maintained by men with more whiskers than facial piercings. Alas, not any longer. Dude.

Good point. When you crash a carbon wonder bike, you don't take it in to get the fork realigned, you take it in to get a new fork. I blame mountain bikes and X-games for the guys with too metal in their face.

To be fair, even back in the 80's and 90's a lot of shops did not have the tool to face an American style BMX BB, nor did they have the tool to press in new cups. I worked at a shop that did not sell a lot of hig end BMX, but we certainly worked on a lot of them just because we had the right tools.
