Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Again, this is where you might want to find a club ride to join. They know where they are going. Most clubs will even put their rides up on line so you could just follow a route by yourself if you want. Most people get rides by observing roads that they think would be fun to ride on and then ride on them. Yes, out in the country tends to be better than in the city, especially if it involves being on a multi-user path or lots of traffic stops. Also, it seems like you could really use a cycling computer or get an Iphone app or something that tells you how far you've gone and how fast you were actually going when you were moving.

I've looked and looked. There is a total of one club I can find in my area and I am nearly sure that they are more like a team with the word "club" in their name. It costs a significant amount of money to join them and they have trials. That says team to me. Biking isn't very popular where I am, well road biking. There are lots of MTB people.
