Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Univega Supra Sport: Good beginners frame?

Hello all
Still being new to the bicycles, there are a lot of areas and knowledge that Im figuring out that well... Sometimes only experience on the saddle and letting your experience on the saddle allow you to finally connect the dots with all the random information picked up by tabloids, people and skimming through books. Now that I'm more aware I'm curious to continue searching for tidbits of information to hopefully connect the dots once more.

Have a Univega Supra sport frame with an NJS Dromo crankset. It would be equipped with a Columbus Foderi Unicrown Rinforzati chrome fork, Bontrager Racelite up front, a Mavic CXP33 with Surly hub up front, Ahead threadless headset, Ritchey Classic Stem and tubes and tires would be bought accordingly.

With the rest of the project parts eventually collected. Would this be a fun and good, way to introduce oneself to the singlespeed world?

Lastly would it be worthy and safe enough to take on the track?
Thank you all
Best

Its a conversion. It'll work as a single speed. Just rent a track bike if you actually go to a track.

At that point for both single speed and track use. Should I just nab a Dolan Precursa frame set? You can get them straight from their website usually cheaper then ebay stores despite the pounds you pay.

I bought a Pre Cursa from Dolan in the UK, and the shipping costs were astronomical.

My first fixe gear was on that same frame! It was black with red lug derails. Still miss that frame sometimes.

Sounds like it'd be good for the road, not for the track. You can't really have both.

Some shallow banked tracks might let you train on a road frame conversion with no brakes or levers, but you will not be allowed to race with it.
