how often do you crash?
Im just asking because I want to see if I have a problem... I crashed again over the weekend nothing serious but I got fairly scraped up (I guess riding home after having 28 4oz glasses at a beer tasting wasn't such a great idea) . Over the last year I have crashed 3 times nothing too serious but not fun (especially convincing my coworkers and friends that I am not crazy and that the fixed gear that I ride is not some sort of death trap). What about all of you guys/gals?

what? thats a great idea.
crashes, hmm, i havent crashed in a while, bashed into a mirror and got tripped up about a month ago? before that i was on my way down a big hill with construction going on and wiped out when i slowed down to get out of the grooved pavement area, what a pain, nothing bad but just a bad situation, luckily there was little traffic that time. oh and that was on a hybrid, it probably would have been worse on road tires.

I always crash when I try to practice my drunken trackstand.
"Are you ok?", say the people on the side of the road.
"I'm fine. Just way too drunk to be riding a bike."
Never try to trackstand when your balance is impaired.

It has been a while I crashed at speed, but keep falling over trying master a track stand for more then 15 seconds. Last crash I had ended a streak of 3 crashes in 2 weeks. One was a door, another was a mirror and the last one was a curb. The curb hurt the most and left handlebar marks on the top of my thighs. After that crash no more whiskey after work=no more crashes.

I've only crashed once in the past year and a half since I've startind riding and that was in March or April.
So, I think I'm doing pretty well.
That's not counting the 1mph nose dive I did into a curb while drunk, though.

How the hell do people crash during trackstands??? You just pedal out of it when it gets iffy, or put a foot down. Of course, if you practice clipped in at high spring tension...
Anyway, I used to crash every 2000 miles or so, which I consider very good. But I have already laid down the new fixie on its side twice in less than 1000mi... New geometry, new steering characteristics, new drive system take their toll in control.
So far, no significant damage to bike or yours truly, except when I was doing very sharp turns for fun 2 years ago. One got too tight, I went over the bar and ended up with 3 stitches in my chin.

I've had 3 crashes since 1999 when I started riding fixed.
1) sideswiped by drunken cyclist as he veered across 2 lanes and clipped my front wheel.
2) hit by drunken motorist as he rolled through a stop sign at night.
3) not sure how, but laid down my bike on a bike path after a few drinks
...I'm beginning to sense a theme here...

I don't know how 20,000 ranks internationally, but it was good fun for sure. How could I have missed it?

Not often. Once a year maybe. Last time was about 4 weeks ago when I was dodging a car and my tire skidded along the side of a curb. It was very minor.
I almost crashed at critical mass last week. I was standing with one foot clipped in and started to lean towards that side for some reason. Almost caused a huge domino effect!

about once a year. i had a nasty crash in july. schlitz + road construction threw me over my bars. my cell phone was somewhat destroyed and it took my shoulder about a month to fully recover. testy clipless pedals have also caused some 0 mph fallovers.

That is actually why I crashed. I usually ride in the streets but considering my inebriated state I figured I would try to avoid playing with traffic. So I was coming down the sidewalk approaching some train tracks that cross the sidewalk at about 20-30 degrees (from parallel) and as soon as my front tire hits the tracks it slides out and im down...
I've gone over these tracks numerous time on the road and never had a problem but apparently the sidewalk leaves enough room for my tire to get stuck.... damn train tracks

hit a pothole in the dark just two nights ago, over the bars and skidding on the chin. luckily I have a beard. guess if I plan on riding the one long dark ass street in ny (the one way below the BBQ and brooklyn heights) I should invest in a light... before that was spring time, some non drunk ****** in a minivan crushed me into a parked car as he swerved into the empty space ahead. Had a couple years without anything major before that.
Loads of close calls though, worst was trying to cut inbetween two pedestrians only to realize they where carrying an eight foot 2x4 on their shoulders! Nothing to do but duck, and somehow I found myself alive on the other side...

oh, i crashed last year... forgot. i had taken my bike to a shop while riding cause i had a flat on the front wheel and i didnt have any backup. ****ers changed the flat and then didn't adequately tighten my wheel and i didnt check. about 10 miles later, after riding down broadway from 200th st to the LES, about a block from my destination, i got cut off and had to try to hop up on the curb, but when i pulled up my front wheel didnt come with me. i did a somersault and landed in a sitting position on the sidewalk, uninjured but with a tacoed wheel.
and then a couple months ago i fell when my girlfriend was hit by a cab and i tried to jumped off my moving bike while still clipped in. ****ed up my arm... not really a crash though

I'm looking at once a year...means I'm about due for another one any day now. Glad I'm wearing a helmet now.
Coiulda been a nasty one yesterday due to my awesome route planning ability for the Dim Sum ride. Going down a way steep hill brakeless with traffic at the bottom...good thing my right foot unclipped...wait...not that's a bad thing. Thank god we didn't die. Sorry again Kyle.

i've had two fairly bad crashes this year. one was caused by alcohol (rear-ended parked car, broke two teeth), the other by adrenaline and slight misjudgement (bounced off a wall while racing down a spiral ramp in a parking garage, abrasion scar on shoulder). i also fall off my bike a lot when i've been drinking, especially since i switched to clipless.

One night last July, I was telling my girlfriend how awesome I am at picking late-night drunken routes home from various bars. As I was looking at her and explaining how amazing I am, she slowed down.
I slowed down, too, and way faster than her, but only because I hit a speed bump going 15 mph, which is apparently why she slowed down. I hopped into the air and somehow (and I attribute this to being exceptionally drunk) ended up standing over my crashed bike; my feet were the only part of me to touch the ground.
That's been my only fall in the past three years.

Hmm... i fell doing no handed backwards 360's a couple of weeks back. Lost the balance, didn't have enough time to unclip my foot and grab the handlebars. Before that was a minor incident with a sewer grate in London in Febuary. And about a year ago I got knocked off the road by some soccor mom in an SUV, on her phone, not signalling, who never even noticed she hit me, just kept on going before anyone got her plates.
Three times in a year isn't too bad.... i think. Never had anythign serious really, just a few minor scrapes.
