Dear carleton

Chainring bolt Tightness
So i cant seem to ever get my chainring bolts "tight" enough, I have to always check them before long rides, and make sure they are tight,

I use steel EAI track chainring bolts. witch are not to cheap, And they always seem to not be tight enough,

I tighten them in a star pattern for even pressure,

Any secrets? tips?

(i've seen some tools homemade at the bike shop, Its like a C clamp- one side is 5mm allen or Torque head for Torque specific bolts and the rear is either 5mm allen head or The slotted tool.

Where can i get this? I have a constant battle with chain greese, Pain. And Chainring punching.... Its bloody, and i wouldn't mind buying one of these/

What cranks and chainring combo are you using?
And you are using single chainring bolts, right?

I've read that before, Thats one of the places i seen this tool before, I just want to obtain one, or imma chop up a C-clamp, And weld on a 5mm allen and a 12mm peg wrench and use that.... Im desperate, My chanring bolts come loose like ever 100 miles... and every time i tighten it, i seem to damage the rear slot, And it widdens the slot- therefor making it harder to tighten

What are pro max cranks?

I change chainrings all day and I have no problem getting them tight. I use Sugino Knurled chainring bolts. The backs seat into the cranks for no spinning.

Dura Ace chainring bolts are the same way. That's the way to go. $20 solution.

Superglue the female part of the chainring bolt in place. Acetone can get them off if you ever need to.

superglue is for plastic, its an agent that bonds plastic together it isnt adhesive. it sortof melts the surface and makes the bond, atleast the glue that i have says that on the back.

Superglue works. I did it before I got the Sugino bolts. Clean everything with rubbing alcohol first.

Those knurled nuts that Carleton linked won't work with your cranks, because they don't have recesses in the back of the crank spider arms.

According to Scrod, they now are. Just another dumb Omnomnom design.
