*years of experience
*a lifestyle that helps them hit that consistency
*a lifestyle that optimizes recovery and gains made from the bike
*mental toughness
Of course raw talent is a factor, but that's not what we're talking about here.

seems like TKP has a pretty rad gig for riding too. my backup plan if i don't get into grad school is to quit my job, get a part time job, and teach myself programming.
@grolby i agree with you on the time front. you also seem to be better about maintaining balance than me.

Actually not sure which sprinter you're talking about, but the 5 hours applies to both of them I think.
That said he hasn't won a p/1/2 race, and I have. So there!
No really he has more natural talent than most, but some of us have to put in work to come close to matching that, me included.

and for my third post in a row I actually rode today and broke out of my tempo-no-attacking slump and just did my best to beat the **** out of a 100-person noon group ride. Nice weather in the middle of monsoon season here had everyone out.
I just kept attacking, they'd stupidly drag everyone back to me, rest, attack again. By the end they misjudged it and I had a gap going into a 2-minute hill and stayed clear by 1/2 mile at the end. I was very ragey and annoyed, so it felt good to flog myself off the front for the final 15 minutes.
