Same here ... one of our better racers lives on short anaerobic workouts and the occasional group ride.

as obvious as that statement was, it was meant to illicit the fact that increments matter, and it's tough to get farther when you're plateaued with limited time and talent. guys like Gary get there by having

*years of experience
*a lifestyle that helps them hit that consistency
*a lifestyle that optimizes recovery and gains made from the bike
*mental toughness

Of course raw talent is a factor, but that's not what we're talking about here.

@grolby i agree with you on the time front. you also seem to be better about maintaining balance than me.
That's exactly why I got into programming, it was the only thing I figured would give me enough flexibility to do what I want. The first few years was a ton of work; I am fortunate I am able to have as much free time as I now do.

Not really. 22.2% is only slightly more than one level on the ewang chart.

Even sadder (for us), he doesn't even train with power - never has! Oh and hairy legs.

Actually not sure which sprinter you're talking about, but the 5 hours applies to both of them I think.

That said he hasn't won a p/1/2 race, and I have. So there!

No really he has more natural talent than most, but some of us have to put in work to come close to matching that, me included.

+10% FTP and -10% weight would be excellent for me but I would not achieve "crusher" status. However, a 10% increase in strength and a 10% increase in 35 to 40 second power range would make me more competitive at masters worlds in the 500 meters. Lower weight would help but I doubt that I could get the strength increase with a loss in weight.

I agree that increments matter.

yeah. if I weren't starting at like +6% the -10% would have a lot more impact. but, survey says "too big" every time I get on the scale, still.

and for my third post in a row I actually rode today and broke out of my tempo-no-attacking slump and just did my best to beat the **** out of a 100-person noon group ride. Nice weather in the middle of monsoon season here had everyone out.

I just kept attacking, they'd stupidly drag everyone back to me, rest, attack again. By the end they misjudged it and I had a gap going into a 2-minute hill and stayed clear by 1/2 mile at the end. I was very ragey and annoyed, so it felt good to flog myself off the front for the final 15 minutes.
