Masters 40+ race

Just had a quick noob question. I was getting ready to register for a USAC event, and it gave me the option to register for either 4/5 or Masters 40+ 4/5. However, I'm 38 (racing age 39). Is it actually fine to register for the 40+?

Thanks

No. That computer program is periodically flawed along the lines of the XC season. Why my kid got to race in U10 (when there was not age 9) at age 8.

Only if you're a woman. Women masters can race -10 years their age, so a 30 year old woman can race M40+.

I'm not sure exactly what terminology to use for "female", but if there's any question USAC will tell you which one you can race. There is someone in the area that is biologically female but lives as male. No hormone supplements and after proving it USAC allowed him to race women's races (much to their initial chagrin).

Related to that, women can race down their category. A Cat 1-2 woman can enter an open Cat 3 race ("men's" races are "open", meaning if they're not specifically women's races). Cat 3 women can enter an open Cat 4 race, and Cat 4 women can enter an open Cat 5 race.

Finally, Juniors can race up their age. For example a 12 year old can enter a Junior race that might be specified 15-18. You can't go younger than your age but you can go over. Except if you're a really young racer, I think 8 or younger. I can't remember, they cannot mix it up with much older Juniors unless otherwise specified.

All of this is in the rulebook.

No. You are not old enough. Plus if you are new you would probably have a better experience in a cat 4/5 race with other new guys versus seasoned cat 1/2 masters.

This has been awesome for me as a 41yo Cat 1 woman! When I go to register for local races, I have so many options. Not really sure how fair it is but I have had nothing but a welcoming attitude from the men I've raced with this season.
