The road is hard packed fine gravel, not the bumps and jolts of PR. While they may use treaded, thicker tires, I don't see the need for a full-out cross bike. My guess is the teams will keep their setups under wraps untill the last minute before the start.

Seen this over-priced trinket yet? The Basso signature watch:

Yeah I doubt we'll see the machines until the last minute.

500 bucks! Sorry but that's a bit much for that watch!

If I remember correctly, there was a similar section on a climb last year. Lots of talk about cyclo and mountain bikes. The whole thing ended up being really anti-climatic and no big deal.

First last years stage to Sestriere was the most exciting stage of any GT last year. Second the dirt section wasn't as steep nor as long as this one.

Still no big deal. These guys are pros. They can ride on all kinds of scary steep surfaces using their plain old road bikes.

And though that was a good stage, the dirt section certainly did not lead to gloom and doom scenerio everyone expected.

Bruyneel is not the only one complaining, so is the director for Liberty Seguros:

"It's exaggerated," he said. "Until you actually race it, you never know, but on paper it looks excessive. It's not necessary to make stages like the 17th, with a final to a ski station with ramps as steep as 25 percent which can create technical problems for the riders."

LOL. Let me just say that a saying 500 bucks is a bit much for a watch is like saying 150 bucks is a bit much for a bike. 10, 50, and 100 thousand dollar watches are not that uncommon. Hell, my polar 720i was three hundred.

I have a pretty good watch collection, it includes a Rolex GMTII, Datejust (both stainless) a bubble back, Tag Heuer Monaco, and a Speedmaster along with some older Hamiltons so I can appreciate a good watch. That is just Swatch with Basso's sig I can't see paying more than a couple of hundred for it.

Airline shopping catalogues. . .

My Brother wears a Panerai -$6500.

I once had a Rolex as a Gift-damned thing never kept proper time, the lugged steel of watches.

A Rolex doesn't keep time as well as a 30 buck Timex. But then again I can resell Rolex for as much as I paid for them 13 years ago.

You can get a nice "Bolex" in mahattan for $30-works better than the real thing.
I sold mine, for 1/4 what it was purchased for.

No, I thought it was part of the stage at kronplatz, but I just realised it's further down at something called Piani Eterni

Looks steep though perhaps 25%

In cyclingnews it said the ski area was going to pave the road prior to the race. So, while low gearing will be the way to go, I am not sure the riders will need fat tires.

Also, poor Frito became a victim of political correctness and dissappeared, now rumoured to be involved in mexican wrestling as "Frito Libre".

I had that same eraser! It's funny that as an American of Mexican descent the Frito Bamdito or Speedy Gonzolez never bothered me....but then again I can laugh at myself and my people....it's something I feel that to many have lost the ability to do.

I have been reading and enjoying all kinds of forums for years. I can not remember a more truthful statement. THANKS! We should all remember it!!!

Now, so that this isn't a hijack.... damn those are steep roads, paved or unpaved!!!!!!!
