The road is hard packed fine gravel, not the bumps and jolts of PR. While they may use treaded, thicker tires, I don't see the need for a full-out cross bike. My guess is the teams will keep their setups under wraps untill the last minute before the start.

500 bucks! Sorry but that's a bit much for that watch!

Still no big deal. These guys are pros. They can ride on all kinds of scary steep surfaces using their plain old road bikes.
And though that was a good stage, the dirt section certainly did not lead to gloom and doom scenerio everyone expected.

Bruyneel is not the only one complaining, so is the director for Liberty Seguros:
"It's exaggerated," he said. "Until you actually race it, you never know, but on paper it looks excessive. It's not necessary to make stages like the 17th, with a final to a ski station with ramps as steep as 25 percent which can create technical problems for the riders."

I had a Skagen watch real POS atmo.
my bet is racing triples ala Heras on Angliru.
minus all the whinging and moaning by the DS' this
should be a good Giro.

I have a pretty good watch collection, it includes a Rolex GMTII, Datejust (both stainless) a bubble back, Tag Heuer Monaco, and a Speedmaster along with some older Hamiltons so I can appreciate a good watch. That is just Swatch with Basso's sig I can't see paying more than a couple of hundred for it.

No, I thought it was part of the stage at kronplatz, but I just realised it's further down at something called Piani Eterni
Looks steep though perhaps 25%

In cyclingnews it said the ski area was going to pave the road prior to the race. So, while low gearing will be the way to go, I am not sure the riders will need fat tires.
