How about She's Having A Baby?

No, not a bike movie. But the one part is great when Kevin Bacon is mowing the lawn, and his neighbor exists the garage in full pose with long aero helmet on, says something like its just you and me baby giving the bike a rub, and then howls as he rides away.

You know one of the producers, directors, or writers is a bike fan. Hmmm, does John Hughes ride?

Yeah that was a fine homage to Pee Wee's Big Adventure, I think.

Maybe because it's so old (1979) - and it's been forgotten. Check it out. You get to see Dennis Quaid in one of his earliest film roles (I think he's like 23 yrs. old in that film, he looks about 19)...
Dennis Quaid looked really hot in that role...

There's a German comedy called Madchen, Madchen (translated version is "Girls on Top" I think) from 2001 that features a cycling scene....and I think the bike was a Colnago....

i say american flyers. i know it was a bad movie, but it seemed cool when i was a kid, and it's one of two reasons i got into the sport in the first place.
plus, i still think it would be awesome to ride across the country with a support vehicle like that. still want to do that one of these days.

"Mädchen" just means "girl" in german.

Movie titles aren't always translated literally.

having gone to IU & was on a little 500 team, i say breaking away. it's neat to see a full film filmed where you ride, train, study, & live. this spring i got to have some beers with some of the cinzano guys from the movie. one of them is christian vande velde's dad; you should've heard the stories he had about the csc guys. funny stuff.

Early or first appearance on film for Daniel Stern, too.

i liked ROAD TO PARIS just cause it's lance, showed alot of behind the scene's stuff of him trainning, watch the bonus disk aswell!!
OVERCOMING was pretty good, alot more suspensfull, it was about team CSC, watch the bonus dis too!
PRO was interesting, kind of like an A&E special on american cycling.
THE HARD ROAD was kinda goofy, but shows how smaller teams start out in the US
BREAKING AWAY was a tipical 80's movie, so it was pretty decent unless you're overly critical
i only got to see HOLLENTOUR (hell on wheels) in german with english subs so i didn't enjoy it as much and only made it half way thru the movie, but it seemed very interesting, i just don't like reading movies

Sunday in Hell, havn't watched that in a looong time Im gonna go home and dig that out tonight. American Flyers was pretty funny really. Could they have found anyone less believable to cast as Belov? (dude looks more like a world class Bowler than Cyclist).

And the people in the movie are hard to like (due to the way it is portrayed) so it isn't like all that engrossing.
The movie does drag a little unless you have some personal interest. I know a couple of the guys very well and they are definitely not hard to like, I agree that they may have come off a little different in the movie because I think they were a little uncomfortable. PRO was the second movie made by Jamie Poalonetti (sp?) and is much better.

I was watching the Paris-Roubeax last night, the one from the year Booner was riding for Postal, its fun to hear them talk about what a find it is for Postal and how he is going to be a great help to Georgie for a long time, then wouldn't you know it, for the 30th time, Georgie goes down and they mis-call it for about five minutes as Booner going down, all the while, the mad Lion roars! God I love that tape. I remember waking up at 5:30 in the morning to watch it live. This year I only got through an hour of the coverage before Georgie went down again, got disgusted, logged on to cyclingnews and went and had dinner with my family who couldn't undertsand why I was done watching so early, I explained but nobody else cared. How often have I felt this way over the years and nobody seemed to care?

Oops, I drifted there, I love my World Cycling Production tapes but nothing kindles the fire for a newbie like Breaking Away and Flyers. They aren't a must for hard core cyclists, but its what people watch that turns them into hard core cyclists.

Yeah I mean please don't take that comment the wrong way. I don't mean they're jerks or anything AT ALL. Just that the way the movie was done it gave you this very sort of flat understanding of them, in the context of them being characters in a movie. It was a flaw with the movie, not with the people themselves.
