Did intervals while listening to Slayer the other day. That was enjoyable. Went out on a cyclocross-ish ride today with a couple of riding buddies. Held the same pace the whole ride of a guy who was a lot faster than me last season. Cyclocross season is still months away but it's great to see that my work over the winter has had some positive results.

got a new best 5s test today...

1341w gives me 19.1 W/Kg!!!..i actually hit 1432 as a high...pretty stoked.

woot woot...

i also tested for a 1m power but came up on a car at 54 seconds and had to stop...didn't have the heart after the first sufferfest (1m test) to try another one.

i got 685 average for the 54s and the power was dead flat when i stopped. i think i could have pulled at least 670ish. 670 would put me at 9.57 W/Kg if i can do that.

here's the thing...i got dropped in my last race, don't really know what happened but all that 1m and 5s power aren't worth crap if i can't pull the load thru the race.

I was a huuuuge Slayer fan when I was a teenager. Huge!

I don't remember any "races" on the GHT. If it is wide open I might do SST type rides on it, but the stop signs every couple of miles suck. If I really want to hurt myself on a solo ride I ride on Hawthorne Road instead. It is much better suited for it.
Well, it may have been a "race" to my teammate.. This particular guy is notorious for not being able to resist temptation anytime he sees someone on a bike pushing it.

It is always better to ride a race than to watch a race. Although watching a race in Athens, GA as opposed to riding on a landfill "hill" makes it a little bit closer and might even break the rule.
Well, I was planning on racing in Athens too. Morning and afternoon races. But, the wife wants to go see the god kids.

And "Gutt" is a nice guy and a great rider.
Yup.

I remember standing in the middle of Angle Road (WTF? Standing in the middle of the road?) talking to Jayson after the crash. (It is one of the few clear memories I have because I really "had my bell rung". Perhaps it is good that I don't have vivid recollection of all of it. I did ride Angle Road this evening to "celebrate" the anniversary.) The one thing I remember saying was that I was coming back to do the Hipp rides as soon as I was able. Weird. Why would that come out of my head? The next time I saw Jayson was at the State road race champs and he said that he couldn't believe that I was doing Hipp rides again. Essentially he was telling me that I was crazy. He might be correct.

If my memory is correct Jayson had some other crashes with injury on Hipp rides, so I can see his point.
He broke a collarbone on it two years ago. He might have had another injury too.

About to leave for 100 miles. Why am I doing this? I would much rather do a high tempo 40 miles, but I have this desire to ride a century.

Did the A ride for the first time this season to gauge my fitness. I really think I could've finished if I hadn't had to bridge two gaps in a row but that's just rampant speculation. 40 miles with them is a B crit, easy.

Climbing much better...not sure if this is due to weight loss (dropped about 3 or 4 pounds in the past 2+ weeks -- it's amazing what no cookies, cake and ice cream can yield, smile) or getting stronger (I have been doing more hill/climbing workouts)...in any event, I'm a stronger rider overall...now, we'll see how this translates into a race as I have not raced since Belterra, March 28, which walloped me and set me on a more intensive drive to improve my cycling strength.

Being the wimp that I am, and skipping the Webster-Roubaix, I did the local club ride. We had some guy show up from out of town for our ride that started attacking almost from the gun.

Within an hour 1/2 of the group were shed and we were racing down one of the hillier roads in the area at ~50kph. Everyone left was obviously feeling frisky, so we continued to play for the next two hours.

With 10 miles to go, the interloper started to fade and I counter attacked and got away. Four miles later two others finally bridged up to me and we just rode in at a hard tempo with just the three of us.

I got some decent work in -- "winning" 4 of the 5 sprints I went for, and several hard efforts. And I would have gotten the finish but one of the two that was with me never "won" our ride and I sat up to let him cross first.

Good times.

Andrea's dial goes to 11. You can pretty much motorpace behind him.

Rode another tough one today.
After yesterday's 90 mile sufferfest, today I rode a casual ride that turned ugly in the end.
A few of us got to the end and rode ourselves off the front and eventually battled it out.
I loved it.
I may get up and do V02s on the trainer tomorrow morning.
6x2mins on w/ 2min rests, 15 min recovery the another 6x2mins.

I would probably go into a coma if I attempted to hit that wattage for that duration 3x a week. Your FTP of 350+ must be nice to have. One day I'll get there... I hope.

Yah, but you've won more - so I'd trade about 30-40 points of FTP for racing smarts. Unfortunately, I've learned to gain fitness faster than I've learned how to race fast.

What category do you race in? How have you placed so far? I can't imagine you not being top 10 every race unless you are like Cat 1/2 and have poor tactics.
