Planning on putting in the miles this weekend. Aiming for 60 miles tomorrow, 100 Saturday, and 40 Sunday. Tomorrow and Sunday will be high tempo, Saturday will be aerobic. Total of around 12-13 hours probably. That will put me at 15 for the week. That's more than I've done since base ended in January. I feel like I've been taking it too easy. I'm gonna hit it hard until Sunday, recover next week, and then hopefully be able to do well at Conference championships next weekend.

Then the collegiate season is over and I have to start thinking about what I want to do race-wise for the rest of the year. I don't have a non-collegiate team, so I pretty much just pick races I want to do. Probably gonna tend towards crits and flat road races. We'll see how it goes.

Really?

I would expect so much more from a ride that long. Haha, my TSS for that ride would have been like 600...

(but that's because i'm weak...)

Woke up today, right achilles feels sore and hurts a little.

It's too early in the season for a nagging injury.

I'll take this weekend off entirely and reevaluate how I feel on monday or tuesday morning. I might take a week off if necessary. I really want this to go away and not come back...

I guess that I felt "OK" because I rode in at an "SST" type of pace (for me around 22 to 23 mph).

Damn, it feel GOOD to be riding again.
It was good to see you out there on the lime.

I felt a whole lot better than I thought that I would.

Today is the anniversary of my Hipp ride that ended on Angle Road. While rolling out Hawthorne Road I was chatting with "Gutt" and he said that it said a lot about me that I do Hipp rides after that crash. I think that was a compliment, but my wife could say the exact same words and it wouldn't be.

Frigging rain.

I stayed out too late last night with friends I hadn't seen in a long time, so I didn't get up in time to get my ride started before the thunderstorms and stuff hit.

Tonight I'm not going out, and I'm gonna get up early tomorrow and get in 120 miles (longest I've ever done is 90, should be fun). Then I'm gonna pass out for a few hours before going out Saturday night. Then I've gotta get up early Sunday and do about 40 miles, and then to go Easter dinner, and then drive back to school.

For a weekend off, I sure am busy.

Went out on the normal Thursday route from last year w/ the usual suspects. Last year at this time I was getting dropped constantly. Last night I pulled a lot, never was gapped, made a few people hurt... awesome. What a difference it makes when you do SST in the winter & some early season racing. Granted, only a few of these people race but the rest are very strong rec riders. I owe a lot to them as they really encouraged me last year and are a big part of why I've been getting stronger. This stuff really works people, it just takes time & hard work.

Iced the achilles and it feels so much better an hour later.

It's 60 degrees outside and I'm starting to really itch for a ride...

Dave's my hero. He's a class act kid and an incredible athlete. And if you think about it, there's a few people who were on that ride, and in that crash, that aren't on the hipp anymore.

BTW, did you notice Gutt's now sporting a cinqo?

TSB at -16. Today is a rest day. Tomorrow is 100 miles with 12,000 feet of climbing. Sunday is a hard 50 mile group ride and if I have legs for it I'm going to do extra climbing after. That will be the end of a build and then I'm going to take a rest week.

How do you more advance riders do a "rest" week? What exactly does that entail..?

Hard, nasty, wet 90 mile ride today. Lots of climbing, sprinting, and hard tempo. I tried staying up front as much as possible laying down the hurting - to myself mainly.

Beer.

Actually, for the most part I'm following the 7-9 hours a week program (ride hard as hell 6 hours, ride easy 1-3 hours) and I find I don't need much in the way of recovery. But, I do take Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays off the bike; I'll run 30-45 minutes on Sunday and do core work (planks, transverse planks, and situps, yum) on all three "off" days.

He's a stud. I was hoping to go to Athens just to watch him race twilight, but it looks like I'm going to Miami to race over the garbage dump (and see the god kids) instead.

Like Jayson, just off the top of my head.
Eggsactly. Then again, he did break his neck in that crash.

No, but I'll scope it out next time.
It's funny, I only noticed it when the two of us were off the front together attacking the ride last night. It's strange what things you notice when you're pushing your HR above 195.

I took care of that a while ago Timmy--I had those pesky disks removed.

60 miles, 200 TSS, 3 1/2 hours, 6x3' VO2s @ 113%. The rest, just enjoying the ride.

I road the ride last night (2 hrs) and it hurt more...doctor today. I'm pissed off.

Okay, you made be blush. Good thing I have this beard so nobody can see it.

I don't remember any "races" on the GHT. If it is wide open I might do SST type rides on it, but the stop signs every couple of miles suck. If I really want to hurt myself on a solo ride I ride on Hawthorne Road instead. It is much better suited for it.

It is always better to ride a race than to watch a race. Although watching a race in Athens, GA as opposed to riding on a landfill "hill" makes it a little bit closer and might even break the rule.

And "Gutt" is a nice guy and a great rider.

I remember standing in the middle of Angle Road (WTF? Standing in the middle of the road?) talking to Jayson after the crash. (It is one of the few clear memories I have because I really "had my bell rung". Perhaps it is good that I don't have vivid recollection of all of it. I did ride Angle Road this evening to "celebrate" the anniversary.) The one thing I remember saying was that I was coming back to do the Hipp rides as soon as I was able. Weird. Why would that come out of my head? The next time I saw Jayson was at the State road race champs and he said that he couldn't believe that I was doing Hipp rides again. Essentially he was telling me that I was crazy. He might be correct.

If my memory is correct Jayson had some other crashes with injury on Hipp rides, so I can see his point.
