Re: Asking if the bike/SRM is ok before asking if the rider is ok.

That seems to be pretty par for the course. When I told my teammates about a wreck I'd been in the first thing they asked was "How's the bike?!" I guess we automatically assume that if the rider is there to answer our questions they are obviously ok. Then the more pressing concern becomes the bike.

In this case, UT_Dude wouldn't be posting this if he wasn't ok.

So now I'll ask; UT_Dude, is the bike/SRM/other expensive equipment alright?

Good luck at Gila. Did you go to the 54 or 55 for the TT? If not borrow one NOW!

Not to rub salt in the wound, but you crashed because you locked your wheels up, not because he was in the way.

Umm...not when there are people down in front of you... better than plowing into some guy's back or head. Unless you think that he just endo'd for no reason...

i don't think he would have hit the brakes that hard and locked up his wheel if a dude wasn't layed out in front of him, you know?

The other 20+ riders in front of him seemed to do just fine.

It WAS entirely his fault. It was an overreaction, and, you know what? It happens. He'll learn from it and come out the other side smart for it. I'm sure he'd rather do that there than bombing down the hill at Gila next weekend.

No, I lost the back wheel through the turn because of the water. Thus, when I braked on the front wheel, it locked up pretty fast. There are bricks on that corner that were extremely slippery when wet -- just check the YouTube video of how many other people crashed for an idea on that.

Net effect is that I'm perfectly fine, save a scrape or two on one elbow. The bike has a few scratches, but who cares? Helmet isn't even scuffed -- I think it only touched the ground *after* stopping.

It looks to me like you had some rear brake on, and as soon as the slide started, it locked up -- you were pedaling through the corner, and your cranks locked with your inside foot down.

So, I think it all started with the slide on the brick because of light braking pressure, the rear instantly locked, and when you came out of that section, the front wheel hit dry pavement and grabbed, sending you over.

What 'Rockets said about the YouTube. On some level, I don't really care what happened -- it was wet, and both myself and the bike came out relatively unscathed, so it's fine. I'm laughing at it now, because the video is so cool

I cleaned the CR1 up this morning and it's all completely fine and ready to kick some butt tomorrow! The P2C still needs a bath before Friday's TT, and I need to throw on the 54 chainring (couldn't find a 55), but then that's ready to rock, too. To anyone who's ever done the Gila TT....can you stay in the bars on those descents?
