I've been recruited by a friend and client to help her buy a bike. She wants one just to "ride around town and maybe in some of the local parks." A hybrid is the obvious option. Anyone know of a really sweet option? I'm even thinking internal hub gearing is the way to go. I suppose I could venture on over to the hybrid site, but I fear I'd be deluged by overeager information overload.
Aluminum frame, 700c wheels, 7-speed drivetrain, and Northroad-style bars. And not a lot of money (to a bike racer ).

BTW, Dave, please keep it hush on the local scene until I send a note to the rest of the guys on the squad, which will be tomorrow (I just need to figure out what to say). It'd be weird to have your team know more about it than my team..

I opted out of mine. Having someone stick a needle into my back sounded scary. Lucky for me, my pain comes and goes with activity and I've learned to work around it now.
I really hope it helps you though. What are you doing for PT?
Well I will not opt out of it at this point. I really need relief. Been out of work for 4 weeks, not to mention off the bike and all exercise. The good news is there has been improvement. SO the PT expanded my home thereapy stuff. Now using a foam roller, tennis balls tied together in a sock. This is to help loosen the ribs on both sides of my spine. The other three I have been doing for a week, traction, shoulder rolls, and crunching the shoulder blades together. She also said to up my spinning time to 15 minutes on the trainer(no hands allowed on the bars) which I can increase in 5 minute increments so long as it doenst hurt. Problem with the spinning is all the weight is on the seat.
The MRI was not done being read yet so she was unable to get a look at it.
Thanks for all the welll wish's.

it's september, toss your bike in a corner and let it get dusty if you're not into. the last thing you should be worrying about is if you're fast or not.

I've got a sports med apt and a PT apt coming up soon. Fingers crossed.
Yeah. Mine was never that bad. The worst I had was a little bit of drop foot that just scared the crap outta me, but got better relatively fast with stretching and PT.

No, I meant thanks for the advice. I took it and called a therapist. Just over the phone he declared I was bat***** crazy and hung up.
And I honestly don't care right now if I'm fast. I wanted to race this last one road race of the season but I'm feeling worn down so it's not a big deal to me. I'm not that race-crazy now even though I'm crazy in other ways.
Has coddling tendencies.
We just got this bike for my wife. https://www.rei.com/product/798566

Ohh.... did I mention that my daughter's PopWarner team was invited to the Panther's/Bengal's game at the end of the month? The team she cheers for won the game that was going to get them in. Actually they walked all over them. So if I can get access I'm going to see if I can get a picture of her with T.O. and Ochocinco.

Yes! That's good. A single 42t chainring keeps it simple. We're gonna go a store together so I can gauge her reactions to various models. I'm going to try and steer her in the direction of simple and practical, but won't keep her away from more sporty if she's inspired by that.

I went for a ride. When I pulled my bike off it's mount a moth flew up from the drivetrain. Not an auspicious start.
Cross season is here. The Psimet 50mm carbon tubular super wheels are put away. I think I'm beginning to store fat reserves for a long hibernation.

BTW, I'm on my wife's computer in "Safe" mode trying to get it functional again. It has been flaky since Skype was installed so that we can "see" Spawn1 at college. I wish that I was riding instead. It is just a gorgeous day out there.

Did my first of three sessions for a study in the kinesiology dept at my school.
Had to fast 12 hours before the test, started off with 30 min @3.6 W/kg, which wasn't really that bad. I kind of felt like a bonk was coming on because I couldn't eat but nothing yet. Then I had to do a TT. They didn't say how long so I no idea how hard to go so I went at a pretty moderate pace. 10 minutes in I bonked. Hard. I spent the next 50 minutes breathing into a tube every now and then, wishing to get off the bike because I felt like I was trying extremely hard, but knowing I was barely putting out 3 W/kg.
I felt like complete crap after and still do even though after they fed me pretty much everything I could eat. I can't believe I have to do that two more times, except they are going to be taking blood.

Now on my wife's computer and all is good. Disabling the no longer working "wired to the MB cat 5 network interface" did the trick. That thing hasn't worked for years after a really bad lightning storm. Even with being on a UPS there was a strike so close that it killed that part of her MB. And the same strike totally fried the MB in Spawn2's computer and he also was on a UPS. With his I had to do a MB swap and actually got him a much better one.
That strike was CLOSE. Sound and light at nearly the same time is pretty intense.

In all fairness, or carpet in the living room is getting pretty ragged. It doesn't bother me, but I can at least understand .
Though, replacing the worn carpet would be a much less expensive alternative!

Learn the to think like the other side! When my wife wanted to know why I needed another bike I said that bikes are like shoes. You can't wear the same shoes for every occasion, so why do you think that I can ride the same bike on every ride? Different bikes for different kinds of rides, just like different shoes for different occasions.
