I hit a wet/painted speed bump and down I went...not sure why, really, it just happen. The ankle is a spot of bother and the knee isnt much better. But 24 hrs will be the tell-tale of the real damage. Im hoping for the best. Worse case scenario is my rest week gets bumped up a week early. Im going to do my best to at least spin around tomorrow if at all possible. To keep things loose...other than that, got the obligatory loss of skin, scrapes, bruises etc...
And one of my cages got ripped out of the carbon, so I'll need to get creative with the epoxy.

sorry to hear hammy, hope you feel better soon. it's that time of year when bailing is a bit more common unfortunately. on friday's commute I had to make a hairpin turn but didn't notice the ice on the outer edge of the turn and down I almost went but fortunately it's a really narrow ramp so I was able to grab the side railing and not fall.

Jim--I was thinking more along the lines of soup! I'm a somewhat timid descender, so I shouldn't be giving lessons to anybody.
Actually, I almost had a head-on with a Jeep when I overcooked a turn on that descent. I also almost smashed into those cars on Riverside chasing someone down that turn. I think those two incidents (plus seeing someone go careening off the road at 45+ at Green Mountain) have contributed to my timidness.

As for descending, i'll studying tapes of Samuel Sanchez acting like a dare devil on the slopes. Man, that guy makes it look easy.
can you walk okay? Eight weeks (actually, more like five) should be enough to recover from knee injuries, but you'll just have to peak later.

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but my teammate has been staying with me all week and has been eating there. She said it's amazing.

How should I reply to my brother ?
We don't keep in touch much ... he's on the other coast. I sent him a "Hi, how's it going ?" email the other day, and go a reply that:
- He's getting divorced, his foot problems are back, and now has a disk & leg problem, and U of CA budget cuts are killing his department .... jeeesh.
We used to ride & race together in the old days, but he's been on & off crutches for a while now.
I'm trying to reply, but everything comes out wrong, and not much I can do to help .....

jim & hammy - sucks heal quick!
Dinner & movie with friends to celebrate the birthdays & holidays.
Ruth's Chris: A-
Wine, steak, sides, & dessert were great as always. Rushed holiday season service knocked it down 1/2 grade.
Tron Legacy: B
A decent attempt for a sequel to a mediocre original movie. I didn't fall asleep after the big meal.

Sorry for the pains guys. Heal quick.
My IT band is bad, but getting better. I was able to get in a short ride this morning. Three of us were spinning easy, having fun. Then our friend showed up apparently ready to blow up things. I limped home. I really should have let them roll off and leave me. My healing should have been priority one.

EDR, i don't recall hearing about your accident. This isn't the same as the one involving WR, is it?

After never ever having any IT band issues late this summer it suddenly seized on me and I could barely walk. I stopped training for two weeks, applied ice twice a day, got serious and focused with my stretching, and eventually I started feeling OK. Too bad that it started at the time I had planned on ramping up the intensity getting ready for the Fall season where I live. I ended up totally punting the Fall season to get it right.
I'd rather it happen to me now. Actually, everything to happen now. I've got a couple of weeks to get through some stuff and then start looking at what my next goal is. Whether or not I'm racing any - or a little.

You'll be stiff and sore for a few days, but you'll be surprised how quick you bounce back so there's no need to go into panic mode. Ice the knee and ankle (you're probably doing that anyway), tend to the road rash, and drink a modelo.

Yard work this morning (raking for 2 hours), then I rode a little over 4:30 solo today. NP was just under 230.
I only had to stop for two traffic lights and to take a whizz, I made all the other lights (including the really bad light at 441 in the town of Alachua, twice!).
I had zero problems with the 30' @ 300 interval after one hour, but had a lot of problems trying to do 300w for 20 minutes after 2:30 into the ride (it came out to more like 280).
I attacked 9 hills on my way back in after 3:40 in the saddle (one of the "attacks" was more of a thud).
I could eat a damn horse right now.
