A friend grew up in Pauma Valley during the 60s when it was for super rich people, (don't know if it still is), and he drove a Bentley to high school. Then his father went to prison and he had to move to Van Nuys where I met him working at a gas station.

I had a little fun out at Palomar today. So how or another I'd never climbed Nate Harrison Grade before. It's a dirt road that leads from Pauma Valley up to the ridge above the top of South Grade Rd (the road that the Tour of California climbed). The road climbs 4300ft in less than 10 miles. Normally I don't take pictures while I'm riding, but today I felt like it for some reason.
It was difficult riding out to Palomar, trying to ride up the wrong road, then ride all the way back to do some more google research. Now I skip Cole Grade (and the Lawrence something resort and two other freakin hard climbs) and just go out Wohlford Lake whatever through Escondido. One climb (Wohlford) then I'm there at the base of Palomar.
It's really nice out there. Looks great.

My brother's wedding song was the Ramones cover of "It's a Wonderful Life". Awesome. I need to cut that tape and make him and his wife a clip of their wedding. I dropped the camcorder out the car window that night, but it made it through reasonably well. It was a fun, funny night. I think it was the most alcohol I ever retained, and it was probably the highest dollar amount too. My sis-in-law worked in the wine biz and scored "reasonable" and "really nice" champagne. The post-wedding party in their suite was fueled on the good stuff and I opened a few bottles just for myself.
Top secret, don't post on facebook or on my blog, but I finished editing a song clip for him. It's URT, "Deepest Knife" (an SDC helmet cam clip favorite), performing their last ever gig in Chicago. March 3, 2002. I hope he'll give me the okay to post to YouTube. If so then you all can see it. For those that saw on Facebook me complaining about iMovie that's what I thought I lost, 6 hours of honing.
Even when a clip is done you can do more to make it better. I spent 4? hours today touching it up after I considered it "done". Had to republish it a few times already.
Editing bike stuff has nothing on editing music vids with their beat-precision requirements. 22GB of raw footage (.avi sucking up my disk space). I'm totally psyched that I got this done, been working on it on and off for a long, long time. Started it a few years ago kind of half heartedly, overwhelmed in Windows Movie Maker by the scope of the project, set it aside. Recently put in a concerted push for a few weeks, few hours a day, a couple 2 AM work sessions. Late for Christmas but close enough to make it good.
I'm seeing them all this weekend so will present it to him then.
I hope to get two more URT clips done in some reasonable amount of time. I think that's all the footage I can use from their gig (which I videotaped).
I also have group rides, Tues night worlds, some other stuff from 2010. Vegas rides, the Strip, Red Rock. Palomar descents (another on/off project). Etc etc. I could do this full time and never be caught up.
