I want to ride my SS to the gym tomorrow morning. I'm wondering how terrible an idea it is to ride a steel bike on these incredibly gross salted roads...
Hm. Maybe I'll ride the commuter. It has fenders. Success!

The leg, while still a bit creaky, seems much improved, at least for an hours ride. We're looking at snow here tomorrow, which means all the joints get more creaky.
Dogs will be happy though.
I've spent the last bunch o' days mulling on and collecting data on the masters racing scene here. Of the first 8 race days posted here, only three have an open 40+ masters category, the others have me riding the P1 or some derivative (though the one race did offer a 50+ open)
While "The Dinosaur" (as I was once called at the end of a race), is not against doing the occasional freshman mixer or retirement home gig, I don't want it as my primary food source, partly because I'd fall apart under a full P1 road race training regimen, but mostly because I really like racing with my team, which is mostly 40+ guys.
One race even went so far as to designate a 40+ 2/3/4 race. Given that me and a teammate constitute probably 25% of all 40+ Cat 1's in the entire state, I can't help but feel singled out a bit.
A few years ago they decided to condense two masters races (35 and 45+) into one race, a 40+. Guys like WR got kicked to the curb. Open masters entries have dropped per race day by 50%. The next solution is to kick more people to the curb, the guys who make up 33% of the current entries, by creating a 40+ 3/4. I jokingly suggested that they should just name on the flyer the guys they don't want showing up.
So you sit here and start looking at maps for places velodromes and good riding, which is pretty depressing because I have a lot of friends and a great team here.

I'm in pain all over. Why did I think that, while not training much at all, I could go off the front with 2 of the fastest guys in NC and stay there - in the wind and snow and muck and utter brutality?
I feel like I got the s*** beat out of me.

I'm thinking of moving to a less ******** country. Any ideas? UK would be ok, but I'm not thrilled with all the cameras. I don't speak anything well except English. I know German, but barely.
I'd love to move to Australia, lots of nice sailing and some riding there, but last I checked it's really hard (impossible?) to get a work visa.

Procrastinating getting on the trainer, after which I am going to my shop sponsor and putting some money down on a ss 29er, never thought I'd be doing that but there is some great single track nearby and I can't keep up with my friends when I am on my cx bike and they on their mtb. Plus on days like yesterday and today, while I am couped up inside they are out for several hours having fun on the trails.
Another bike, my wife is gonna kill me.

15F right now. Ride starts at 1pm today. Still gonna be cold for us southerners. Tomorrow they are calling for 5 inches of snow and real bad driving conditions. May have a 'weather day' tomorrow. Yeah, we get them at work. And I get paid for it. So .... looking forward to a good recovery day with the family in the snow.

I can't imagine ever owning a geared mountain bike again. SS is like a religion.
