I would have been screwed. I put on about 7 sustainable* pounds between my junior and senior year, and I did a lot of lifting and not much swimming or running. No way I could have gained weight during the season, I always slowly lost weight over the course of the season.

*Weight that I kept after practice got serious

Re lactose intolerance: I just got it bike racing last year. I was fine until that summer, but started cramping up towards the end of summer. I cut my morning granola with milk and I was fine. That and cytomax piss my stomach off. It really sucks. Whole milk is such a great way to get in good cals.

I would down the lactase pills with it, but I think that taking 10 lactase pills a day is silly...

Might consider it more strongly if I have trouble gaining weight. Super cheap way to do it.

the Hyperbole and a Half blog is possibly the funniest thing on the internet. It may even be the funniest thing ever in the world. I'm really not kidding. I've been going back and reading her old stuff after RTC posted one of the new ones here a while ago. She is ridiculously hilarious. I find myself laughing out loud at work, trying to contain it.

When I found "the one" I always brought her chocolate whenever I went to see her. It was kind of a Pavlov meets Skinner meets Carlos Castaneda thing that I was working on there.

My housemate started seeing a friend of hers recently. He's an awesome guy, and I'm glad they're 'together' as this has been in the works for a while. That said, he's left her flowers at the doorstep twice already. I think that's silly. They started 'seeing' each other this past weekend.

She said their conversation was as follows:

Her: So yeah, us.
Him: Yeah, us.
Them: Oh. Us.
/end

I almost peed my pants a few times after reading some of them.

re: the lactose intolerance mentioned above --
if you can find it at your grocery store of choice, grab some goat's milk & give it a try. delicious & without the side effects from cow's milk.

How is it any different from cows milk? Doesn't it still have lactose in it?

it has a lot less lactose than cows milk. I've a cousin who is lactose intollerant (breaks out into bad eczma) but who can drink goat's milk without problems.

It was sunny and warm when I left Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Now I'm home and it's cool and rainy, with a Nor'Easter on the way or something to that effect but it's nice to be home. From the pages I've surfed through:

gsteinb: she looks stunning, congrats!
botto: well done on the race but you need to work on Cyclist Climbs Mountain Pose, oh nice shoes.
flatballer: dating should be fun so relax and don't worry about who you should be and act like, just go out and have good time then the rest will follow.
mcjimbo: There's a ride up to Nyack that I'll try to make this weekend because I've been missing the riding while on vacation. PM me of interested in tagging along this ride which is going to be a leisurely spin.

I took my staff out to lunch and I think I accidentally tipped on top of the automatic "gratuity" they add for large groups. Oh well. I hope I'll get good service next time I go in there.

My wife isn't allergic to chocolate per se, but if she has too much of it (read: not very much at all) she will get a migrane. It's just one of the things on the long list of foods that will give her migranes.

Also, she seems to be allergic to the aroma of coffee. She doesn't even have to have any, just being in a room where it is being brewed will give her all kinds of problems. Interestingly, Starbucks isn't a problem

Goats milk tends to have a lot less of the crap (hormones etc) that cows milk does just due to the fact that it's produced in such relatively low amounts. I don't drink any cows milk anymore..soy rice or almond milk for me and my kids.

I dunno. Nothing like a tall glass of chocolate whole milk after a race.

Might wuss out on the big climbing ride this weekend and do a lesser club ride. Found a pic (bored at work) from that club ride with me stuffing my face while following another geezer. My right shoe came apart and we stopped at a store and got some white tape to hold it together.
