An easy way to tackle this is to check out this page.

Interestingly (middle of page):
*Tip for matching trousers to sportcoats: The bone buttons of a sport jacket have a range of colors. You can choose trousers that match any of the colors of the buttons and they will go perfectly.
("matching" in this case follows the color wheel definitions elsewhere in the page)

Sorry, I meant to say blue/black is bad.

I'm wearing black pants and a blue shirt. I'm guessing one of the grey-ish sportcoats I have will go. The other option is a khaki sportcoat.

I don't think I'd want to wear khaki pants.

Considering 95% of all the kits out there, cyclists putting any thought to color coordination seems to be a rarity.

You should own a suit and always wear one for any interview.

Grey and navy are THE staple colors in any wardrobe. Normally try to avoid black pants with anything but a black suit, which you should also avoid unless you're at a funeral. Charcoal or navy is a much better option. If I had to wear black pants I would go monochrome with white shirt and midgrey jacket w/ a subtle tie, maybe something like a navy pindot.

Also, khaki pants w/ blue blazer and blue oxford is a pretty outdated look, and navy jacket with black pants is a horrible idea. Go to styleform.net for more advice on how to dress properly.

Tennis maybe? Golf?

Well, I did go sailing today. It was quite windy. Took on a lot of water over the gunwales. It was interesting.

The traditional Brooks Brothers view is that only the dead and servants should wear black. I extend it to wedding but not much else

PS. Styleforums has no style. Just saying

btw I want to see this green blazer, that sounds swag. where'd you get them? I'm lusting after this blazer:

This advice would have possibly lost me a few jobs. My top three highest paying offers, for a given job hunt, involved interviews with me wearing jeans with a t-shirt or a sweat shirt. You don't want to stand out because of your clothes. If the job requires you to look sharp, or is more conservative, then yeah. Maybe.

Still though, my current job is with a conservative defense contractor, and I just wore khakis and a nice shirt to that interview.

I will say that my wife was, umm, "concerned," that I was wearing a CU sweatshirt to a job interview, but she let me run with it when the offers started rolling in.

You go to a fratboy school.

I went to a liberal hippie school. Yeah we had some guys in frats that had formals and stuff. That was not my crowd. I wore dress pants, dress shirt, nice shoes, and a tie to a few of the interviews I had. It was never a problem.

If I wore a suit to this interview tomorrow, I think I'd be really overdressed. I think a tie is overdressed too. The attendings wear them, yeah, NONE of the RA's do. People wear jeans to work in this office. Some people at my work do as well, but I'm not allowed to because my boss is very particular.

Edit: The green jacket still had tags on it and the pockets were still stiched. I paid like 23 for it. It had a 140 dollar clearance tag from macys on it. 2 of the jackets I bought had the stitches on the pockets still. The green is best described as st. patty's day green. I'll put a picture on FB over the weekend.

Were you tipped off that casual was ok for the interview ?
