Anyway, I just finished a regular loop ride with 1500 feet of up, and came very close to setting a new PR. umd is goading me into going on the famous Simi (valley) Ride this weekend and I needed to know if I can sustain a fast tempo. I'll still suck, but I don't want to suck horribly.

Watch your ass on that ride, son. Lots of close-quarter action possible.

So, umm, now we can't see who posted last in a thread without clicking, signatures take up even more space, and the control panel still sucks.

This is an improvement?

You know that anxious feeling you get when you don't ride for a few days? It's killing me right now. Took 3 days off last week and the past two have been off for mechanical work. Tomorrow is also off because I butchered a cable. Hopefully rides friday and saturday, sunday is snowboard time. Hopefully next week will be another full week.

what was supposed to be a routine overhaul ended up taking 2 days to finish as I a) stripped a chainring bolt b) lost a crank bolt c) snapped a der. cable and mangled the new one since there were remnants in the shifter

this is why 9 times out of 10 I prefer to avoid working with my hands

Some hard core uploading of core temp videos going on over at the TeamRadioShack YouTube page. Core temp management is important during a race. Who knew!

What do you recommend for a first time experience? Stay as close as possible to the front of the slowest group? My thinking is avoid twitchy types and follow steady pedalers.

There are so many ways a reply to this could go. Most of them are of varying degrees of wrong.

Jeebus. 25 degrees and falling with a 25 mph North wind. Sleet on the way.

Who ever sent it, please take it back.

The weather front hit Austin just now. I woke up at 42F (6:10am), and the temp dropped 1F every two minutes. It was 36 by 6:30. Later today, I think it's going to get cold (20F).

I'm just impressed with how fast the temp fell off a ledge.

I have to mix a song for my daughter's dance team. Do you know how puke-inducing Lady Gaga's music is?

Watching the high thin clouds roll in. Supposed to snow this afternoon. I think I'll try the workout UMD did with the 6x4' VO2 intervals. Looks sadistic enough.

You'll probably be fine if you just use your head. People get in trouble when trying to stay in a group that's a little too fast and then they freak out if there's contact. There are also the 'win at all costs' idiots who think it's the TDF. Hell, we have them on our club rides but we yell at them.
