That Guy...
there's this one guy, well maybe there's a few, but this one guy... drives me mad.
he's got a great eye for what's happening during a race. almost never misses the break. even worse - his jump. i've been flicked by him more times than i can remember. every time i'm in a race with him, i know that the only chance i have of beating him is by getting in a break. he's also squirrely as hell.
just found out that he was a former dutch amateur champion (beating michel zanoli, amongst others).
that's a relief.
anyone else have a similar nemesis?

Everyone in a cat4 race is my nemesis now. Especially since about 40 of them beat me to the finish line first, all the time.
But enough bla bla, I'm out for a nice 40 degree F ride. Summer my ass.

yes. there's a guy around here in the masters scene, not as credentialed as GWBNAF or your dutch boy, but he's strong and extremely sloppy. He's been the instigator of two of the stupidest crashes I've ever witnessed - one where he ran into the tower at the s/f at kelly cup (it wasnt on the course, it was a good 3 feet off the course) and another where he ran into a cone, knocked it onto the course, then next lap ran into the same cone and crashed. I hate being anywhere near him, but he seems to find the podium often enough that I sometimes need to be.

We've got a guy here who has amassed nearly 100 upgrade points and won't leave because he wants to be the Austin Regional Texas Cup Road Race Champion...the guys an ex-tri guy and is a bit scary to be around. I've beat him on a couple of occasions and it's nice...unfortunately he's also cost me some good finishes with is poor bike handling...chopping wheels and sketchy riding.

That Guy is a teammate and friend of mine. We ride together a lot and are very well matched in terms of strength, yet he consistently gets better results than I do. He's always in the right place at the right time and just a bit fresher or stronger and slips away in a late breakaway. He's got a few W's and a few more podiums to show for it.

Hey you know his bike handling is getting better, I actually get within 3 or 4 bike lengths of him sometimes.
Is the game on tonight? Should be fun 3rd week of the mini series.

For me, right now, it's a team mate.
He's a few years younger than me (most are) and he has a killer pop.
If it comes down to a sprint the only way I can beat him is if the sprint starts about 800m out or if there are a ton of attacks in the last 2 or 3 kms.
The only way I can really beat him is to get into a break. This is always my preference anyway. And, if it comes down to the last 5km and we're in the same group, I'm going to lead the guy out because we'll most likely crush anyone else there.
It's a pretty wierd situation to be in.
At the last RR I wanted to do something with about 60km to go but he slipped of the front (marking a guy) and I was forced to block for him because they made it across to the break. The good thing is he won but I ended up getting mangled in the sprint and managed a 5th.
I really wanted that one, too.
I guess it's better to be racing with him than against him...

There's a guy who races the Tuesday Night Worlds around here. Not my nemesis, but it's fun to watch him race in the P/1/2 group. He's had his ups and downs, been fighting some demons but theory is he's cleaned up and is making a go at getting back into the pro ranks. He's won the last few Tuesday nighters except this week's, when he misjudged someone else's jump, got hemmed in and ended up third.
It's been very entertaining to watch him as he gets stronger and messes with the locals. Pretty sure some of the stuff the OP mentioned is going on in the group, except this guy doesn't seem squirrely.

No my hob mang. I'll be up front killing myself to keep Robbie, College and the Benzonator in check and helping my boyz get OTF...by mid race the selection should be made (I won't be in it)...I forgot add to the mix two kilo killers..Waterrockes and Todd B...ohhhhh the pain to be dealt by these two wheeled assassins...
Just about every fast masters racer in Austin is going be in this one tonight...

Jansen? He's getting a lot better and part of the reason he's staying in the 4's is to get more experience before moving into the 3's. Also, on the times you beat him was he trying to win? He works for other team members a lot. He's helped set up the lead out train on numerous occasions. He's a good guy and a good teammate. There are guys certainly waaaay worse than him in a pack out there too.
The guys fast no doubt...I'm sure he's a wonderful human being...possibly the kind of guy I'd want my daughter to marry some day...he still isn't the kind of guy I like to go bar to bar with.

I have a "that guy" on my team. He just started racing on the road, and while I've always been regarded as the sprinter in our group, I have a feeling I'm going to be doing the leading out when he becomes more experienced and gets his upgrade. He's on this forum, too.
I can't count the number of times I've anticipated his jump but was still left thinking "HFS!" after having to TT back onto his wheel. It's not fair.

Chuck will have 2 races in his legs by the 35+ tonight. Hope some of our guys save it for that particular race. Most of us like to do 2 or more races a night though.
