Training Status??? (II)
Making a kilometer blurry
I'm getting a lot of fitness out of 45 minutes of trainer tempo in the morning, followed by 45-75 minutes of road tempo at "lunch." When I start doing intervals again, I'm planning to continue the tempo in the mornings (3-4x/wk), and do all the intervals on the lunch rides. I've done this in the past with two 20-25 minute commutes at tempo, and intervals at lunch. That bounced me the fitness I needed to win a bunch of races and upgrade to Cat 2, and as soon as I lost the commutes, I had to downgrade...

Two weeks, haven't touched the bike but been hitting the gym really hard again. Weight crept up a little (188) but now mentally prepared to start to suffer.
And WR I agree in the split workout stuff.

Work schedule is hectic this week, so only evening trainer rides for me. Probably 60-90 minutes each, hopefully 3 times. Since I have to be at work at 7am, morning workouts are not an option. My copies of the Cyclists Training Bible and The Feedzone Cookbook have just arrived, so hopefully I can start losing weight and gaining fitness at the same time, albeit a little more effectively.
One thing that has been quite strange. After taking a few months completely off the bike (life stuff) I've been riding 3-4 times a week and I've noticed dramatic changes in both fitness and the muscle tone of my legs. I remember last year when I was riding somewhat "hardcore" it seemed to take forever to achieve these same changes. I feel a lot better and I'm highly motivated to train for next year at the moment. I've gotten a power tap this year and have also been eating better, so maybe that's the change? Anybody else have this same experience?

Had my first ride back for base last night. Did 1hr easy.
Felt different, and awesome for some reason. Thought it was just because it was a night ride (going to be the usual for a few months now!). Got home and realized I left my helmet at home the whole time! I'm such an idiot! Can't believe I didn't notice until I got back! No wonder it felt different!

I think I may go troll 41 with that in the "you on a bike" thread... <edit> done. </edit>
It adds up. Eating smart will be the biggest part of the muscle tone. The PT can facilitate fitness progress, for sure. I got a lot faster when I started using mine.

Friday - Monday - off traveling, visiting family, seeing Blue Man Group in Chicago...no bike, no time, no workouts
Today - Daughter had PT appointment over lunch & basketball tryouts right now...will try to get a jog in tonight and maybe start easing into some core workouts.

Two nights of cookie intervals this week. Probably doing some bourbon work Thursday or Friday, then a major beer base building effort Saturday. Then back on the bike Monday or Tuesday.

...1.3 hour commute, 30 min jog at work, 1 hour Z2/Z3 ride. I am trying a new eating scheme: eat more for breakfast or rather second breakfast after my commute to work to hopefully stave off the late afternoon evening cravings.

More definition and "hardness." Looking at my legs I can see more muscle and they feel firmer. I also seem to be recovering much more quickly than I did this Spring. Maybe my dreams of winning more TdFs than Lance may come true after all, wait...

I also realize that after reading other posts in here mine look very... amateur? Oh well, once my power numbers are higher and the "real" rides (not base) start again I'll post those.

For me, some hill repeats yesterday and unbelievably I am still feeling the effects of my leg workout from Saturday. Chest/Triceps today at lunch then a 1.5 hour commute home followed by a 1 hour spin bike ride (If I can get motivated)

A VO2 max test followed by a deep tissue massage was on todays schedule.
Had a little scare when I stepped on the scale before the testing began. Weighed 67,5 kg which is about 4 kg above my competition weight. No stress though, still well over 6 months until the season opener.
Test results were fairly good considering my weight and the fact that my last proper VO2 max interval session was over a month ago. The test marked the beginning of the preparation for next year. From the next week and onwards my training will be a lot more structured and organized.
