Lost close to 10 lbs in the last 4 weeks due to digestive issues. And that's with nearly 0 bike time. 156.8 lbs this morning. Not how I had envisioned reaching my goal of 155. Unfortunately it seems a good amount of that loss was muscle mass. This is the longest, by a factor of 3, that I've been off the bike in 3.5 years.
Well, to make lemonade out of lemons. Since I'm close to my target weight and starting to feel somewhat better I'm hoping to exchange some fat for muscle weight and come back stronger and lighter when this is all over. Will be a long road back though. Hoping to get my bike back from the shop and get out for a little easy spinning in the next couple of days.
Oh yeah. Also found out I've got an issue with the disc closest to my hip and some arthritis building on the left side of my hip. That explains the pains I've been having. Good news is the doc prescribed lots of core exercises and continued bike riding since my back actually feels better when I keep it working. So I now have doctors orders to get more fit. Yay!

Tough ride tonight. 2:30 with some threshold, tempo, and endurance riding. My legs felt really good, which was nice. I did 1:27 w/ an NP of 2.71 w/kg, which hurt. Then I did 40' of easier endurance pace stuff. Really a nice ride and it was nice to see some good power numbers.
Off tomorrow then Jeremy Powers' Grand Fundo on Saturday, which should be fun.

some openers, some hard TT style tempo, some uphill 'sprint' efforts, and 2h overall.
Perfect last ride before stage race this weekend.
Found out that there is indeed enough room for me to take the TT bike - so it looks like I shall

The local crit is this weekend. It's non USA-cycling so it is split into beginner/intermediate/expert and is just a chance for the locals to duke it out.
The only person I am worried about is my housemate (Collegiate A / Cat 2 / 6'2" 165 lbs). I can easily camp wheels and out-kick most of the racers around here, but my housemate has the ability to make the last laps so frickin fast by himself that I won't have anything left for the sprint. I'm trying to convince him to take it off to "prevent burnout"...

First ride after two days off. Wednesday was due to helping Spawn1 and wife getting ready for Spawn1's college "preview" trip. Yesterday was very rainy and all of my family was out of town so I skipped the Thursday night hammerfest because if I crashed there would be nobody to "pick up the pieces". And there was a crash on the ride involving two of my teammates.
Today I just did 1.5 hours of SST with a break in the middle when I met up with a teammate going the other way that finished 7th in Cat 2 at Fitchberg. I just had to give him a lot of .

I did the J.A.M. Grand Fundo today. Great course with lots of dirt and a solid amount of climbing. I tried to hang with the front group at the beginning but they dropped me on the first dirt section. Then I sliced my tires and ended up with 2 flats in a row after my tire boot failed. Thankfully jelly belly pro and two pro looking guys in NCC kits (I probably should know who they are, but I didn't). 45 miles in me and a few other riders took a wrong turn and added an extra 3 mile climb to the route...oops. Then I ran out of water and suffered because of that. I finally rolled into the parking lot where music was playing and the pork was being pulled. Great way to end a tough and fun day on the bike. This was a great event. I hope powers does it again next year.
I also got to meet greg180 a bunch of times throughout the day which was really cool.
Charity century tomorrow. There a dew guys going who are sure to push the pace all day long.

Fourth day in a row off. Although, I did do some Mollusk intervals (i.e., mowed the lawn, weeded, cleaned up flower beds, returned a heavy item to my brother).

Yeah, and I ended up doing two rides, a group in the morning and solo after noon. I was going up a 20+ percent grade and was dripping buckets. Ran out of water with about an hour to get to my hotel and could find anything. Doh.
Crash, I was 141 when I left and 132 when I got back. After copious amounts of beverages and several large meals I am back up to 138.

4 hour team ride today. The highlight was doing a solo bridge to a teammate 90 seconds up the road and trying to stay away. That felt good, and what I mean by "good" is "hurt like hell".
After a minute or two to recover I started riding some tempo for my teammate to follow. He really wanted the sprint and the only way he ever gets them is on a solo break. I said that if we make them chase hard and you just sit there recovering then when the sprint comes you will be fresh and they will be tired.
A couple of miles later the group is closing fast and when they were about 100 m behind we just sat up totally and slotted into the middle. Sure enough when the sprint came up about two miles down the road Dave L took it. It's cool when things work out like that.

Another tough day on the bike. 5:33 on the bike, 106 miles, about 6,000ft of climbing. Fun ride, but it was hot and my legs were fried from yesterday. At least one day off coming up, maybe two depending on how I feel.
