King's Mountain is a serious ride for me. From my place it's basically a century. I've done it once, by myself, stupidly. I got lost and turned it into 125 miles on a hot summer's day, with just water and food, no electrolytes at all. I thought I was gonna die. I don't have the legs for that kind of ride right now.

Starting at sea level though, so no elevation acclimation for me.

Back on the bike again after 4 weeks. Stomach has settled down (probably 90% back to normal). Eating normalish (yet smaller) meals again. Hopefully have stopped losing weight. Taking it easy getting back at it. Went for first "training" ride Saturday. Only an hour(ish). Legs felt weak, heart rate jacked. Another hour this morning (same route). Things seemed to click a little better today. A little faster. Legs felt a bit stronger and more "coordinated" in their effort. Getting a prime example why heart rate isn't always the best metric for measuring training intensity. My PE isn't matching the elevated heart rate on the last two rides. Heart rate is way high compared to how I was feeling. Lot's of fitness loss I suppose. When I'm more fit though, heart rate does slot in a lot better.
Lot's of work to do and I'm going to build back up slowly. Hopefully I can hit the last couple local races of the season here in August just to get the juices flowing again.

Since Triathlon is a part of my training for cycling, below is the powertap log from the Vineman 70.3.
Unfortunately, even though that I have had my bike professionally checked and tuned up the day before the race, I had some mechanical issues with my bike and had to stop for about 8 minutes to take care of those issues. (loose rear brake rubbing the wheel, chain, water bottle between my aerobars got loose)
Nevertheless, beautiful 56 miles course. Too bad I couldn't go all out as I was saving some energy for the 13.1 mile run therefore I didnt want to go over 160s HR.
Lap 1 (2:46:24.31):
Duration: 2:45:05 (2:46:24)
Work: 3114 kJ
TSS: 354.6 (intensity factor 1.14)
Norm Power: 342
VI: 1.09
Pw:HR: 18.68%
Pa:HR: 3.85%
Distance: 55.63 mi
Elevation Gain: 1615 ft
Elevation Loss: 1531 ft
Grade: 0.0 % (83 ft)
Min Max Avg
Power: 5 688 315 watts
Heart Rate: 116 168 157 bpm
Cadence: 19 118 83 rpm
Speed: 0 50.8 20.2 mph
Pace 1:11 0:00 2:58 min/mi
Altitude: 19 449 146 ft
Crank Torque: 0 1267 321 lb-in

Always do a shakedown ride, even after all those pro- tune ups and fits. The only time I've ever ridden or raced a bike right after it was 'fixed' was if I was watching the entire time the bike was being worked on. And I still did a shakedown.
Great numbers btw, but why only 20mph @ 340W?

Uptown Cyclists do a ride from Charlotte-ish to Crowders and back. Very cool ride. I think they're on weeklyrides.com.

Jancouver, judging by your IF, I believe you may have your FTP set too low in WKO+. Great numbers though.
RTC, he has a max speed of 50.8, meaning there were probably descents, and thus probably climbs as well, which would decrease his average speed.

those are pretty damn strong numbers for "taking it easy" for almost 3 hours. I can't do 315W for 10 minutes, and I'm big.

My wife said that she saw a bunch of bike stuff (bottle rocket holders, aerobar bottles, full regular bottles, etc.) on the bike course. One woman had her RD fall off!

Not anymore. Around 195 these days.
No kidding! You could probably build a full bike by collecting parts around the course.
I think my bike got messed up during the transportation and I noticed the rear brake problem at the transition area just before the start of the swim. Basically, I was riding with brakes on for about 26 miles ...... ouch

examining other times on my 1' segment from yesterday, I'm coming to the sad conclusion that the number is not accurate, unless there was major wind I am not remembering. will re-ride it tonight on the way home...

Correct! I was pushing around 400 watts and I was being passed by some "old biaaaaatches". When I took care of the brake, it was like having another gear. Best guys in my age group finished about 2:30. I did 2:46 with my brakes on and 8 minute stop.

Interesting ride this afternoon. Rode the rail trail going out of town into a slight head wind and see a guy up ahead grinding out a low cadence and hunched over on his aerobars, but he is moving along at about 21 to 22 mph. I decide to follow about 100 m behind just to see what happens. After about 10 miles he slows down a bit, so I pull up next to him and start chatting.
He's in his late 40's, former college athlete (played baseball for Florida), was a tri-guy, and about 10 months ago was hit by a drunk on a moped whilst riding his bike. His shoulder was seriously messed up and he couldn't ride for a LONG time. He is just getting back into shape.
His bike is weird. It is a Tarmac with Shimano 7900 and platform pedals. He asks if clipless pedals would help.
He says something about my shaved legs and he asks serious questions about leg shaving.
He asks about where to go to get a bit fit.
It turns out that we have a number of friends in common.
That was kind of fun.

I'm cooking dinner tonight.
You can't attack. That breaks the ride "rules" for Tuesday. Or are they only for the 352 guys.
Saw you warming up in your Ouch kit, BTW.
Perhaps I'll be out there on Thursday.
