Yeah, compacts come with 50/36 or 50/34. The latter don't shift as smoothly as the former since 14 teeth is a good jump size. That said, if you play around with the 52 you can get it to shift about perfectly. I did that on a cross bike.

You need to buy a good ring for it though. Chainrings last for a while, so buy a good 52 compact ring. They make em in 110.

I've never thought of that - but thank you I may use that in the future.

What is the general consensus on RED rings? I would assume they are probably better than the rival rings I'm using now?

I meant good like not the cheapest you can find. SRAM rings are fine. Chainrings aren't something that should be pricey unless you're playing with rotor rings and such.

Thinking about it. i have to make sure I have enough first. Wasn't able to get a lot. I might also redesign one to be "factory" jersey too....

Red rings aren't so hot. There were a bunch supposedly that people ran into that hadn't been heat treated properly. In general they are softer than the otheer rings used in their lineup.

5 hours Saturday, 3 Sunday, plus a really ****ty sunburn = easy Monday. 20 mile out and back with gusts up to 40 on the out. My completely subjective numbers are up, based on RPE at least. Tuesday Night crit series starts up tomorrow. Will be my first mass start ever. Shooting for holding on and not getting my wheel knocked out from under me.

so after a humbling start to my race season with some middle of the pack results, today did a solo drill on one of our monster local climbs Pole Hill Road. 3 miles of around 8-14% grade snaking around the side of a mountain overlooking larimer county. its a nightmare climb. last summer i did it with a group ever wendesday night as a bit of training for mt evans.

tonight was the first time i've done it this year, but i set out to do 2 repeats and full throttle. i havent really done other rides that are useful gauges of my fitness against last year so this was my first chance to see if all my training and weight loss has been working and that... even though i know i'm not where i need to be for my priority races this summer, i'm at least making progress.

long story short, i beat my previous PR of 21:40 by two minutes. and then, i rode down, and rode back up and beat the old PR again, this time only by 20 seconds. so it turns out whatever i'm doin, its working, as i'm about 10% faster on the hardest, steepest hill climb in the county this year.

yeah, it hurt. big time. especially the kick at the end. the hills and dales and back countries of new paltz and the gunks. its a slightly shortened version of the ride the rapha continental team did. wattage looks too high to me.

Off the bike since Friday thanks to moving. ARGH. Might get trainer time tonight. Most likely not riding until tomorrow. Not pleased.

Head full of mucus last night and between the sinus pain and post nasal drip I got little sleep. So I bailed on my interval set this morning. Might try to get in a decent ride this afternoon but that's no certainty.

6 sprints near or over 900W for 10". Fun fun.

That really jacks the NP up for the ride

The time crunched program gives you so many days off? I could’ve sworn you just posted about taking 3 days in a row off and now you get two more? With such short workouts that seems excessive.

The purpose is high intensity-low volume. I don't think there are any weeks in the plan that have 3 days off in a row. Some two day blocks stress the system enough that two days off are called for. But I could be wrong. I need to go back and check it.
