My one piece of advice is if you have a powermeter, use it to pace your way out with the tailwind. Don't go too easy, but don't go too hard. Too many people used the "hold back" strategy last year and held too much back giving up valuable time (FWIW, my average pace to the turn-around was over 29.5mph last year).
Given the winds forecast, I'm now wondering if 88mm are going to be too deep.

pretty much an awful 2.5 hour z 1/2 road ride today. no legs at all, even though im very mentally in it right now. so i made a decision...if i was a coach who was coaching myself, what would i tell me? i'd tell me to stay off the bike for a week, at least. that was my gut answer each time. i just have a feeling that if i don't take a real break now then it will come back to bite me in the arse. anyone have any input on this? good/bad idea?
probably doesn't help that i've been doing a lot of single track hammering with a cat 2 with super good technical skills. that stuff hurts. but for some reason i keep going back every time when i know there's no real point. fun though. but i think it's hindering this whole rejuvenation process. my gosh today's ride sucked.

Best of luck to Mark, Ken, and Derek tomorrow.
I hope that the wind is nothing like the wind this afternoon. If it is it will suck HARD (and not in a good way).

Why would ever want/need "good legs" for a Z1/2 ride? If you had "good legs" you needed to do a different type of ride if you are in training. If Z1/2 was on the training agenda then it should be because you have "bad legs" due to the recent training stress. Color me "confused".

but thinking back on the ride, it was a real struggle just to do z 1/2. i wanted to get off the bike and call for a ride home

Was this today? I'm thinking about riding this route tomorrow, but the weather may be an issue.

speaking of keggers.. There's a post-state pub-crawl, you're not on the fb so you missed the evite. We're meeting @ tall paul's tomorrow at 6:30, having a beer then moseying over to the top. From there we'll hit the House of Beer and finish up the night at Stubbies. I hope you can make it!

Rode the fixed gear spin bike for the first time in a while (year?). Dreaming of welding various stuff to it so I can actually fit it.
Lost a lot of rpm. 232 rpm max observed, down about 20 rpm. Considering getting shorter cranks for it (175s right now).
Now I want to get my track bike on rollers/trainer and see how that goes. 170s on that bike.

Reading between the lines it sounds like your motivation has dropped. I'd either put down the road bike for a week and keep up with the singletrack for kicks or lay off cycling altogether for three-four days and then see how you feel on the road bike. My bet is if you go completely cold turkey you will be chomping at the bit before too much time goes by.

These are low resistance, high rpm efforts. I bought a cyclocomputer through our team group buy and installed it. I didn't realize it doesn't have a max cadence feature (I didn't look that hard) so I have to try and watch the screen. I may just put an SRM harness on the thing to record pedal speed.
I'm hoping that I can get into the 260-280 rpm range this winter. Anything over 286 would be a record for me. I also want to do high resistance accelerations, aka "jump".
I like doing these efforts, they put a different stress on my legs. I'm too afraid to start up in the season since I lose a few days of riding after the first day on the spin bike, due to soreness etc. With no races coming up for me I figured I should give it a go now.
It's a 52x15 or so, but it's kind of nonsensical since it's just a flywheel.
It's also a ridiculous position for me, I really want to cut parts of the frame off and weld on a piece so I can adjust top tube length and bar height. And seat height too.
