A little over 2 hours at around tempoish pace. I rode in the drops for about a 1:30 stretch of the ride; it is amazing high high the hoods feel when you get on them after that. The Weather Channel said that the temps were in the mid-upper 50s; it felt like 49-51 to me; perhaps I was in the shade for a lot of the ride. It was a touch windy.

I finally purchased a fan for my trainer riding -- the Lasko 4900 . Perhaps it is a touch overkill, but, it's not often that one sees a product sold on Amazon with ratings at 5 by 104 reviewers, 4 by 16 reviewers, out of 123 reviewers.

Rode in the "warmth" (low 50s). Felt nice to be out. Haven't ridden in a few days, it's been stressful. One of our beloved cat having a seizure (they suspect it was a blood clot now) was just one of a few things going on around here.

I decided to bag the FSA compacts. Put on NOS preciously saved 3ttt Gimondi crit bend bars. Cut off a couple inches of the ends per normal. Wrapped using the tape from the FSAs (they were salvageable). I didn't realize they were deeper drop than normal. They felt... deep. Very nice settling into that low position, had a lot of power. Sprinting (I jumped just once) felt odd. I'll have to check it out more, check numbers, etc.

They were narrower and made climbing out of the saddle on the hoods much more rewarding. Flew up this one bumpy rise, a spot where I test myself (I should make it a segment).

Did 2 laps of my standard loop (basically flat, about 16 mi), avg almost 17 mph, which is really fast for me. Crawled up the hill to my house.

Send it. Out of town right now but I have access to a gym. I suck at sprints. Big peak fast fade.

Same with me. You can make it work. Also do you shift while you sprint? I've been able to hit peak power 2-3x by shifting in sprints.

Never answered this - lights out by 10:00 for me unless, like last night, Mrs. rkwaki rolls over, asks if I want to have sex and is naked - then bedtime is 10:01

1:12 Kill myself ride, 24mi, 20mph. About 25min of z2 warmup, followed by extreme pain. .87mi @8.3% done at 13mph, followed about 1mi later by .8mi @ 11%, done at 10.8mph, followed about 2mi later by some ridiculous rolling uphill section avging 4.5% over 1.5mi, which was done at about 19mph (slight tailwind), followed by hammering my ass off over small but steep rollers til I nearly puked on my handlebars.

Time for squats/lunges/step ups.

40' Z2, 50' tempo.

Near-fail. Today was supposed to be 2x20 but a few minutes into the first effort it was clear I wasn't going to hit my target - legs just too fatigued. Dialed it down a few notches and made the best of it. Looking at 6+ inches of snow tonight so tomorrow will be off or an easy trainer spin.

On a brighter note, I noticed while getting dressed this morning that my jeans were a little loose around the waist and a little tight around the thighs, so I guess I'm doing something right.

1 hr 40 minutes.

1 hr and 20 minutes was Z2. 20 minutes was 6.8 miles riding SSW. NWS says that the winds were 16 mph with gusts to 25 mph out of the SW. Agony. In the drops and stayed there wishing that I could get lower.

I tried sprinting the last bit and the wind was howling into my face. I could only hit 28 mph.

felt like crap on the morning ride today

heavy legs
new bike i wasn't comfertable on
rear brake pad too tight rubs a little
queasy
different gearing I wasn't used to
most importantly: head wasn't in the game

I went from charging every hill and contesting every sprint point to just sittin' in with a bad attitude.

its all good tho. I need an easy spin tomorrow, to open up the rear brake a lil and some new bars+stem and ill be back in action.

Taking the day off the bike. Wind is ridonkolous here too; no sense in risking a sinus infection or getting blown into traffic two days before a race. I'll do some indoor core work instead.

Raced last night. 145 TSS. Rode a bit under 3 hours today. At around 1:45 climbing up the the mountain the wheels kinda came off. Legs just went to crap. Finished with 135 TSS. Around 3000 kj for the two days.

I'm getting some decent hours in but it's really hard right now, that transitional phase where you just kinda hurt, never feel fast, and wonder if the legs will ever come around. That part gets harder to feel positive about the older you get. I feel like one of those big old horses pulling tourists around at 3 MPH.
