33 ride, Florida, November 27th

Has coddling tendencies.
The hill looks like a wall when you finally get to it. The film doesn't do it justice.
It's at mile 50 of the 85 mile event. But it's basically where everyone fights to win. We are timed there and then when we get back for an overall.
Here's the route

On the upcoming T of CA next spring, the last of 8 stages includes an infamous climb (Decker Rd) not far from me where it's 12 to 15% for nearly a mile, and right near the end of the worst is a turnout, which would be the perfect place for viewing. That's where I hope to be. My guess is the top teams and GC leaders won't have that much of a problem, but I'm sure there will be plenty of suffering to witness and capture on video

They won't have any trouble with Decker, they'll fly up it. We watched them climb Balcom which is 23% at one point.
These guys came through first, just clowning around.

Cool. I checked the "wall" in detail and it does have sections over 10 and 15% gradient. From what I can tell on the video, the camera is set at the apex of the worst of it, thus explaining all the walking and 20 rpm cadence.

This is from the year before. Ryan Jenkins won it straight out. You can see me further away from the camera (jersey flapping) around 1:35. I was on my balck Fuji SL-1 at the time.
This video really shows a lot of swerving and snaking up the climb.

Has coddling tendencies.
The following is a Balcom profile.
I can see how a short and steep grade after a moderate grade for these guys isn't all that difficult.
Here's the first 2 miles of Decker. That's a lot of pain there. Of course, their bikes will probably be outfitted with huge gears for that day, so we might not see much carnage.

I just realized that I took my Curtlo out today for a 35 mile ride and the water in the water bottles was left over from the day after Thanksgiving Day ride. And I didn't take a single sip of that Clermont water. Perhaps I am a camel.

That's what I'm curious to see up close and personal, if I'm able to find a spot along the worst of Decker on that day.
