Some carnitas, rice, beans, salsa fresca on the way into work tonight. It wasn't the greatest, it wasn't the worst. But, I had a hankering for some Mexican and was too lazy to cook so this did the job. As BG has pointed out there is a dearth of good options in the 'burbs around Boston.

Yesterday I ate an entire package of Oreos and then some Halloween candy which I followed up with a 50 mile training ride. I thought I was going to shart myself.

I used to watch my grandparents milk cows on their farm when I was very young. Milk's fine by me. It is too bad what occurs in factory farms and all that, but I couldn't live without dairy products. I like to make believe that milk branded organic is a little better.

Also,

Can someone that isn't afraid to eat typical food weigh in on the milk issue?

I switched to fat free milk from protein shakes and didn't notice a difference besides a lack of gas which I think was caused by the whey protein. If anything I remember thinking at the time that the milk was working better (probably psychological). I'm assuming that it's better to drink milk than use protein powder since supplements are supposedly not as well-regulated as food.

Milk seems hard to beat as a convenient recovery drink (along with some complex carbs).

5 hours on the bike followed by a ton of fries from: https://www.pommesfrites.ws/ , and a pint or two of local beer on tap. It just felt right.

perused the Oct. issue of NSCA's strength/conditioning journal and found this little gem (leo was onto something with protein in his WO drink)

https://journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/Fu...ge_with.1.aspx

Our results suggest that, compared to a traditional 6% CHO supplement, a mixture of carbohydrates plus a moderate amount of protein can improve aerobic endurance at exercise intensities near the VT, despite containing lower total carbohydrate and caloric content.

It should be noted that this only works for moderate intensities and less. No differences were measured at or above the ventilatory threshold (i.e. breathing hard).

the nice thing about fall is the plethora of seasonal squashes. We cooked a butternut with some maple syrup and cinnamon on it last night, along with some teff (an ethiopian grain), and some tofu with nutritional yeast. Yummy.

You can bake it. Cut it in half, scoop out the seeds, put a little water in a pan & put it cut side down & in the oven.

You can also cut it up into smaller chunks & steam it on the stove top.

Mmmmm squash.

It's super easy - not sure how you'd screw it up.

If you want simple - when it's done put some butter/salt/pepper on it & eat up!!!
