This came out really good. Chicken curry with tomatoes, green beans, and sweet potatoes. There's some brown rice under there too. Spicy enough to make my nose run.

The recipe called for regular potatoes but I don't generally eat those. It also didn't call for any green beans but it needed more vegetables.

Oh and I didn't mean it in a bad way, I'm interested in how that tastes because it's not a combination I would think of with curry. I have some chicken thighs in the freezer which will come out for my Chicken curry this weekend, the fact my daughter likes it is even more of an incentive to make it.

Sweet potatoes seem to have really good nutritional bang for the buck. My wife loves them and I'm finally coming around to them.

Yep, I love them. I always eat them before yoga and lifting, and they're great on rides too. I have a teammate who eats nothing else on rides.

I usually just eat them plain, but I also like to mash them with cinnamon and nutmeg and a little bit of milk.

Jorge, I thought it was good, but then I'm pretty easy to please.

Indeed. We used to feed my daughter sweet potatoes regularly when she was a baby just moving on to solids. She still has a taste for them so I make her sweet potato fingers. I bake sweet potatoes, add shredded cheddar cheese, some garlc and a hint of salt then bread them, quickly fry them and they're good to go. At first I made them just for her but they're really good so I make them for my wife and me as well.

Totally awesome asparagus from Peru in the grocery store this afternoon when I went out shopping and it cost almost nothing. Of course nothing I have never bought in a store anything that compares to the wild asparagus that grows in the ditch along side of the road north of the "family farm" about an hour north of Green Bay, WS. Right around Memorial Day is good eating.

Tonight i am grilling beef (NY strip which was on sale - the filet mignon looked great, but it was very pricey) marinated in olive oil, flat leaf parsley, and freshly ground black pepper. Once I flip it, it will be covered with a topping of serrano peppers, shallot, blue cheese, cream cheese, and white wine vinegar. For the first time ever my grocery was out of Maytag, so I had to use a generic Danish Blue Cheese for this.

Cesear salad and rice/wild rice pilaf will accompany the beef.

Decided to go with a good "grocery store" red wine rather than something nicer.

I am beginning to realise why I am so fat.

Had a friend over for dinner the other night who does the paelo diet and is a spice-fiend like me, so I made her this:

Pan-fried sole (that indistinct mess on the left is the fish--I gave my guest the pretty fillet) with spicy veggies. I sauteed some garlic and ginger in a wok, then added cauliflower, broccoli, chickpeas, hot peppers, chili powder, and garam masala. Wasn't quite spicy enough but still pretty good.

Very nice. I'm not a fan of white fish usually, but that could change my opinion.

That looks great, although I might have used a stronger tasting fish with all of the spices. Halibut would work well. Maybe cod. I like to use sole for more delicate offerings. Still, I would not turn down a plate of that and would be begging for seconds.

Tonight I am pan frying some thin cut chicken breasts that were on sale at the local grocery. They will be egg washed and breaded with panko and fried with butter, capers, lemon, a splash of white wine, and a touch of garlic. On the side will be linguine coated with Gary's pistachio pesto. And there will be salad because I have some romaine that needs to be eaten soon.

kensuf and I both misspoke. Gainesville has dibs, not Florida. Gainesville is to Florida as Austin is to Texas.

First one to send me a free plane ticket gets my personal chef services for as long as the destination city remains interesting to me.

Really, though, mollusk sounds like a much better chef than I am. The stuff I cook is mostly pretty simple and straightforward. I just take lots of pictures.

mollusk: the sole was on sale. I brushed it with some soy sauce and sprinkled with dried oregano (I know it sounds weird but that's my standby for fish--it makes it kind of salty and it's good, I promise) before pan-frying it in olive oil. I would normally have gone with flounder, and halibut would have been great, but I wouldn't say that cod has a strong flavor.

Gainesville has a lot to offer except any climbing and the summer (that takes up about 6 months of the year) is very hot and humid.

I am blushing. But my wife (who is a VERY good cook) is miffed that the family wants me to plan and execute all of the big holiday dinners.

Simple and straightforward is often the best. Convoluted usually ends up as a total clashing of flavors.

Sole on sale! Be still my heart!

But you had a dining agenda and used what was available to get done what you wanted. It is all good. Chapeau.

BTW, everybody in the family loved the chicken tonight. Even the youngest who would normally not even try a taste because he hadn't tried it before. My wife was going "OMG is that good" and she has a very jaded palette.

On the other hand I figure that if you have butter, garlic, lemon, capers, and decent white wine you can make just about anything taste great.

Had another friend coming over for dinner and a rare Sunday with a short ride, so I busted out the slow cooker:

Chicken sausage, spinach, lentil, and brown rice stew.
