We're headed with a couple friends to see Tiesto at Omnia in downtown SD tonight; I'm stoked. I'm not a huge house/trance/electronica fan, but I do enjoy all of the poppy Zedd/Calvin Harris EDM songs that are on the radio, and get fired up when it's on while I'm out, or driving.

This should be good.

That was fun, like a total blast. I wish that he would have made a little more of a presence and a spectacle; he just kind of showed up, did his set, and bounced. I didn't even notice when the club switched dj's, but I was pretty hammered at the time.

Some Scofield currently:

EXHIBIT A:

lovin' this new Kid Ink track... the beat is sick!

EXHIBIT B:

lovin' this cute little Pastorale. My tenorman friend and I are going to learn it as a duet (he will play the violin parts)

That Pastorale will be sweet with a tenor sax! It almost sounds as if it had been originally written for guitar or lute.

Oh man, I LOVE Schnittke, his stuff is entirely bonkers. This is the first thing I ever heard of his.

Yeah, Schnittke is some good stuff. I had only been exposed to it fairly recently - I was surprised to hear that he had composed his stuff in the 70's, and not a couple centuries prior, lol.

Thanks for posting that TKP, will check it out a little later.

Just got the data transferred from my dead laptop to my just-came-back-from-the-dead (due to a power surge) laptop. Most of it was my stuff in iTunes. Added some more music that I found in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart and some more that I picked up in Goodwill. New additions include stuff from George Benson to Beethoven to Benny Goodman to Bob Seger. I re-synched my iPod so I can take it with me. Still have 120 GB left on the iPod, need to step up my game. Currently listening to Benson, almost makes me wish I were in my 20s and single again - that's some serious romancin' music!

Need to break down and order some Schnittke, good stuff above.

@SpeshulEd we're going to see Tame Impala again! Have you seen them yet? They put on a great performance. I felt like I was in another world the last time we saw them, at some old theater in LA. This time the venue is even smaller, and it's in SD!

Haha, just posted a reply in the other music thread. I saw them at Psych Fest in Austin and they were outstanding. One of the best performances of the entire festival. I'm bummed they're not coming to Phoenix this year. We're going to US Pro Challenge in late August, so I doubt I'll be able to head to SD for the show there, but I am going to look into it. Their live show is outstanding.

My gf surprised me with a wonderful gift yesterday: an album of Camille Saint-Saens' Carnival of Animals, featuring Yo Yo Ma on the cello.

I have always loved this piece of music growing up - I still listening to it monthly, at the least.

Ma's rendition of the swan is fantastic - this piece was really made for the cello. His tone and emotion are so good - it makes me feel like my skin is melting. This version below is a little slower than the album, but it has the right effect:

I heard this recently on KSDS jazz88.3 I really, really dig the main melodic line - which starts shortly after 1:10.

Been on a bit of a Tool kick lately. I've been a big fan in the past.

I love The Patient, and Lateralus in general.

Watch the weather change...
