I sometimes find myself on the nose of my Toupe. It's not a place I really enjoy being.

I like the Arione because it is [relatively] comfortable on the nose. Much better than the Aliante I had before it. If you are spending more time on th enose, have you considered moving the saddle forward?

it's already pretty far forward.

I wish there was a way to test a bunch of saddles.

I think there is a saddle trade thread somewhere. And doesn't Competitive Cyclist have a saddle trial program?

After I discovered I was often on the nose I built my next [current] bike with a zero setback post.

CC has a saddle demo program, if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: Grumpy, I have an SMP with a little padding if you want to try it. You break it you bought it, but you can ride it till you feel like you know if you like it or not. PM me and let me know. I also have a used SLR xp that you can try. That ones a little beat up and I don't care much for it.

I have a Italia Pro-Link I'd let someone demo if they want.

https://www.competitivecyclist.com/ro...es/demo-saddle which i believe is what some others were mentioning

granted, not a whole lot of choices, but a lot more than my LBS has access to at once.

I noticed sliding forward a lot on my arione. My new bike has a prologo choice and I have not noticed the sliding forward as much.

Did you notice any ill side-effects w/ moving your saddle forward? I've considered going with a no-setback (I've always ridden setback - current at about 17.5cm of setback from bb, w/ a zero setback post I would be at 15.5cm from the bb), but I'm worried about jacking up my position.

I do this "on the rivet" a lot... using a Specialized Phenom (mtb saddle) on my roadie.

I've thought about this too and considered sliding my saddle forward a few inches without compromising a full seated position.

It's actually more comfortable when you're out on the tip a bit because you're rotating so far forward that your sit bones wouldn't be on the wide part anyway, and your legs will be pushing you forward (thighs rubbing the wide part of the saddle).

I moved up and down the length of my saddle incessantly when riding an Arione.
After moving to Selle Italia SLRs a few months ago I'm not moving as much, but neither are things perfect....

I'm hoping to try an SMP at some point soon, looking for a trade, etc.

waterrockets ~ I agree and maybe that's why I like my long saddle so much (and will probably leave it where it is)

Yeah, and I run a Selle San Marco SKN Pro. If the Antares wasn't so pricey, then I'd like to try one. My SKN is getting really worn in the cover.

Yes. SMP was the last in a long line of attempted saddles.

I now own three of them - one for my Pedal Force, one for my Cannondale, and one for my Surly.

The track bike still needs one.

Which SMP are you on? I just switched out to my prolink for today to see if the padding helps where the Composit falls short.

Yes. Selle Italia Flite Ti.

They've brought it back. See excelsports.com.

Sell the composit. Buy one with a hair of padding. I love the composit with a leather cover, btw.
