my dad's point of view is as long as i'm at someones house before 2 in the moring im fine. If i'm in my girlfriends bed, or at someone's house it's all the same. My mom wants me in my bed by 12:30. When my mom isn't home it's open season.
Also my girlfriend's parents are just like and i quote "yolo do what you want as long as she ain't pregnant". |

Collarbone Update: FFS! The guy I saw today was totally comfortable with just letting me heal like Quasimodo, sans surgery. I explained that, as a competitive cyclist, asymmetry and/or potential shoulder impingement on the bike was Not An Option (I don't think it's a great option for non-athletes either, but that's a different rant.) So I've got another appointment with a doctor who will do a surgery with a rod and everything, but not till Tuesday, so who knows when I'll actually be operated on. Messaged my PCP to see if there's a sports orthopedist in the system with a shorter wait time. I guess I should've specified a sports orthopedist to begin with, but... *sigh.* Pretty frustrating.

That's a fair point. I've asked for another referral partly because I do want an opinion from someone who regularly works with athletes. I'm not anxious for surgery per se, I'm anxious about healing in a way that interferes with my ability to ride a racing bike. If someone has another solution to get my shoulder aligned that isn't surgical, I'm okay with that, too.

Nice to see mollusk make an appearance!

We got extra lucky: very smart border collie, but not hyper or needing to be worked a lot. He loves learning & doing tricks. I also never realized how omnivorous dogs can be. He gets so excitied when he sees carrots, broccoli, cucumbers etc come out of the fridge.

for anyone under let's say 30 who went to college, do you folks actually have to write reports or is everything a bubble sheet now? i have hired multple people over the past 15 years from natural sciences backgrounds from schools ranging from random small state schools to Duke, and noticed a steady erosion of writing skills to the point that new-ish hires dont seem to be able to formulate a basic paragraph that opens with a position, supports that position, and compels the reader to a conclusion. they're more like incoherent thoughts with a conclusion that isnt really supported. I have talked with others in similar positions as myself in my company and we all have noticed the same thing, so I'm not totally alone in this. dear colleges: your graduates can't write, despite whatever you're requiring. Not hard when you don't ride. Unless you bang it into a door frame.
Banged that into a door frame as well. Seriously though I am neurotic (ba da boom) about keeping stuff clean, polished and in great shape. My last BMC had a ton of miles on it and was mint until I cracked the rear triangle doing sprint intervals... |

Thanks. Lots of orchards, citrus and avocados, and lots of climbs including a short 18% thing early on.

Not that mine is like yours, but I had a 3/4 length spiral fracture to my clavicle. When I stood up from the crash, it was lifting my skin 3". I cinched my backpack (commuting) down tight to push it back down, and rode the rest of the way to work one-handed. Then called my wife to take me to the hospital. Drs said they didn't think surgery was necessary, largely because I set it myself, and it hadn't moved much since. It wasn't completely displaced, still hanging on at the now-hinged side.
So, i just kept it in a sling and protected it. It healed up a bit thicker looking than the other side, but I have no issues at all with it, including more crashes, aero bars, etc. Myself, I think I'd get another ortho opinion on surgery or not, and wouldn't be hunting someone to cut me. Surgery is a risk too. |
