Really sucks. From an active soccer/lacrosse player, to a "90 year old" 17 year old. (Her 85 year old grandmother is in better shape)

The USAC upgrade rules don't make much sense. Upgrade points in a road race for 3rd of 6 (50%), or 6th of 11 (45%?!). But nothing for 8th of 49 (84%) or 10th of 125 (92%).

Why not just make it a percentage? N/5 points for winning a race of N starters, N/5-1 points for finishing 2nd, N/5-2 points for finishing 3rd, etc, until you get down to zero points.

Yup. Someone needs to rework the upgrade point system at some point.

That area is tough in terms of ticks etc. Best to your daughter.

I was building a bike rack for our trip and my wife noticed a black widow on my neck. She tried to kill it but it fell into my tshirt, never to be seen again. Hopefully its the type where I gain super powers.

what do you call it when you just come back from a ride, and you can't take a deep breath without having to cough.

I suppose it could be real. It's my tongue in cheek response. I think 80% of the pro peloton has EIA which then allows them to take a steroid inhaler thing which happens to be indistinguishable from an injected/oral steroid. It's a TUE to dope.

When ozone counts are high it's bad. I thought I was literally going to die because I couldn't breathe after doing a massive sprint on a high ozone day. I don't have EIA either.

When you ride/race you rev up your adrenal glands. This reduces congestion (hence they have pseudo ephedrine aka adrenaline in some allergy meds). When you stop riding/racing you calm down and the congestion comes back a bit heavier compared to when you were standing at registration.

One way to rev yourself up is to condition yourself so you respond to certain stimuli with an adrenal rush. It's sort of like when you meet someone new (meaning a love interest) and you're constantly amped. If you can replicate that through conditioned response stuff it can make a huge difference. This is assuming you aren't nervous/amped during a race. For many years I tried to do certain things going into a sprint (in training or in a race) so that those actions would trigger an adrenal rush. I'm not sure if I made myself think it worked or if it really worked but the end result was that whenever I did those brief things just before a sprint I was mentally in the game.

This is my understanding of why I cough etc. Any doc or EMT or other more qualified people feel free to correct me.

I was a kid, maybe 16 or 17, did a massive sprint while out riding with a teammate/friend. He found me on the side of the road, at first he thought I got hit by a car. We rode really slowly after that.

The only thing that comes close to that is when I was visiting a different former teammate/friend in Edward CO, which is at some high altitude, this was in 2010 so about 25 years later. He lived at the top of a 400m or so somewhat steep hill, one that you either twiddle a 39x25 up or you sprint up in a 53x15. I decided to use the latter technique, not realizing the effects of the thinner air at altitude. I was still wheezing when my friend rolled up, laughing at me. It wasn't nearly as bad as I never got off the bike but it definitely reminded me of the ozone sprint.
