Those of you asking about Campy cassette prices; you can always get a Miche Cassette, which is about half the price of Campy.

funny, but this also applies to many other areas. ever know any parents that basically dropped everything that was interesting about them and became ALL about their kids?

whether it is cycling or parenting, gardening or online gaming, pretty much anything can be taken to obsession. probably says more about the personality than the pursuit.

Not really. I drop those people as friends. My wife and I do not have, nor do we want, kids. (And no, that will not change. We've been married nine years now, and at this point, the only person I know who wants kids less than me is my wife.)

Ohh and my wife and father greatly despise each other. My father has yet to acknowlege that my 38week pregnant wife is even pregnant and refuses to see our nursery.

He retired overseas and lives in the united states a couple months of the year so no real big issue. That and my immediate family is well..my family so even if we have jacked up relatives all is well in our little world. My father always relates to me best as we both are fit competitive people in everything.

I was just reminded of this as he happens to be in town but won't make a showing due to yoga classes and run schedule. Really puts things in perspective on how serious we can be at this hobby.

I am very thankful that my wife has let me race so much this year while being pregnant and I don't ever want to overlook that or my family. I love seeing our kids at the crit races and some of my best rides are with my oldest daughter! I plan on a 10k run this offseason with the wife which should be a lot of fun.

I'm glad you have learned from your Father's foibles and endeavor to do things differently in your life. I'm glad that happened in my life too.

I rode with someone last night that had a scott foil with carbon wheels - it shifted loud and with a serious clunk every time he shifted. No idea what group he had or what it had to do with, but my shifts are very quiet relative to this. I didn't bother asking him why it was like that.

a TT bike with electronic shifting is the first time I've seen electronic and been envious. shifting on the extensions and on the bars.

I can see the appeal in that as shifting in the extensions with bar end tt shifters requires some disruption of position. Individually, I do like <5 ITTs a year, including 2 40Ks that are on flat eastern shore MD beach terrain - elevation change of 2' maybe, and have never been anything but a bottom 3rd TT-er, so I don't think the expense would be justified (not that such a consideration has ever impacted me before, but in this case, it really wouldn't make a lot of sense).

I don't want to think about the amortized expense of my tt rig adjusted by usage vs. my road bike adjusted by usage. TT rigs can definitely be a black hole of expensive ****.

I use the sound of my clunky shifting to intimidate foes. (true story: I have faked people into thinking I was about to jump, enticing them to jump so I could just go with them instead!)

fair points. my expectations were definitely a little off regarding how much regular old "bike fitness" would translate to the TT discipline. Or maybe they weren't, given that I've done OK on very little TT time, but it's clear the guys who have put in the time are swimming in sweet sweet marginal gains.

It's got to be the wheels, although it might also be that hes not unweighting the pedals when he shifts.

Also that hollow SRAM cassette?

With big wheels the rider on the wheels doesn't hear much, it's those around that do. When I use my Stinger 7/9 wheels I get all sorts of comments like "I can hear you from a mile away". To me they sound the same as the Stinger 6s but to others I guess it's much louder.

I've been on the other side of things. When the Stinger 9s first came out a guy raced them at Bethel with the hollow SRAM cassette. He rolled by me at speed near the end of a race. Based on the noise I waited for the 3-4 rider leadout to go by. I finally looked and realized it was only him, not him and 2-3 buddies. It was loud!

I love the loud slam my rear wheel makes when I shift at higher speeds. It's a great mechanical, machine-like, decisive sound. I really enjoy the sounds and the feel from the bicycle, except when my chain is dirty, that sound sucks!

I had a great time in the mountains on the weekend. 4 climbs up near 10,000 feet with 11 friends. I was last on all the summits but I didn't have any cramps or other problems.
Here is a picture of Dave.

We went to South lake, which was dry, then Sabrina, which is very low due to the lack of winter.
Cool place for a break.

Which 4 did you hit?

nvm, looks awesome.

When I nearly died on day one of EC, I spent day 2 fishing at South Lake. I remember more water.
