Here are some random thoughts.
1. Tulsa Tough is a top notch event. It's well run from start to finish, the city supports it enthusiastically, the courses are great, the crowds are insane and it's just the coolest thing to see yourself on the jumbotron. Plus it's a fun place to visit. I grew up in Tulsa and couldn't wait to move away, but this was the first time I've ever been back (since 1985!) where I really had a good time. Some great restaurants, fun stuff to do, and it's all easygoing. I wouldn't want to move back there or anything, but I had a very enjoyable weekend. Next year I'd like to do both the Masters A and B fields for all three races.
2. Crits are way more fun than road races. From now on I think I'll do RRs only when there's a compelling reason to (local races, supporting teammates, etc).

RR's take a higher level of time commitment, training wise. That's the primary reason why I don't do more RR's.

Meh, replace Fresno with San Joaquin Valley and you're in the same ballpark. Think of all the good stuff you've ever heard about Fresno, Bakersfiield, Modesto, etc and I'm sure it will be a very short list.

Super options for tires/rims/mufflers. The whole region is basically farms and auto-repair/enhancement shops, from what I can see off the highway.

That's kind of my point though. What I've heard about a place is usually much more negative that a visit would support. Living somewhere is different though.

You have the right friends and anywhere is a good place to be. Except maybe New Jersey.

It is interesting how much influence other individuals can have on your life. My father has pretty much destroyed his marriage due to race life. Winning marathons, BQ etc etc. All great accomplishments but I also have to explain to my oldest daughter why her grandfather would rather get a zone 2 workout in than see his grandkids at the pool. Ohh and my wife and father greatly despise each other. My father has yet to acknowlege that my 38week pregnant wife is even pregnant and refuses to see our nursery.
He retired overseas and lives in the united states a couple months of the year so no real big issue. That and my immediate family is well..my family so even if we have jacked up relatives all is well in our little world. My father always relates to me best as we both are fit competitive people in everything.
I was just reminded of this as he happens to be in town but won't make a showing due to yoga classes and run schedule. Really puts things in perspective on how serious we can be at this hobby.
I am very thankful that my wife has let me race so much this year while being pregnant and I don't ever want to overlook that or my family. I love seeing our kids at the crit races and some of my best rides are with my oldest daughter! I plan on a 10k run this offseason with the wife which should be a lot of fun.

While we did have an incident today that required a swat team, I'm still looking for the intersection where when you hit a red light you just don't stop.

That icemaker leak I fixed tonight? It wasn't the problem. Replacing the saddle valve went just fine. The leak is in the wall. Kaching.
