Spectrum ride. No crashes at least!

A few team-USA kids showed up, I guess they're back from Europe. Definitely a bit faster today, which is good. Break of 6 of us got off the front in the beginning, unfortunately I rode myself out of it after 20 mins or so.. they stayed away all the way out to the end of Canada, damn.

Helped a team mate get up to the sprint at the Fire station, then took the 280 sprint (chaotic!). Got a generous leadout from Dirk on Foothill, took it. We'll see how tomorrow goes. (Early Bird training crit)

Aaron you were lookin strong today! Good luck at the EB if you're doing it again tomorrow.

Folsom Coffee Republic Ride. Flatted about 10 miles in, re-routed to meet up at the regroup point. Nothing exciting, otherwise.

It's a good one - usually somewhere between 50 and 80 people on it too!

I've heard it's been up to 200 before.. hard to imagine a group ride like that but I believe it.

Started off with about 25 riders for the first loop then only 8 of us set out on the second loop, and a couple of those guys split off. Beautiful day for a ride (sunny pictures on my Strava):

Was weird to be around the Tri scene again. It's been less than a year but I feel pretty detached from that. One sport is more than enough!
Who was the pro triathlete? Was this Tribe Multisport?

My cycling life has become more complicated.

My wife has decided she wants to do a cycling vacation in Vermont. She is nervous on the bike and only likes riding with me at this point. Which means I have to balance training with recreational riding. Really its good for her since she's been in a rut the past few years. It probably means I'll ride 7 days a week (instead of 5) but two will be very easy. Today we drove to the bike path, rode a few miles, and she drove home. I rode 40 miles home fairly easy, but did some sprints.

My sprinting power is getting stronger, still not impressive but the graph is trending up.

Tandem. I bought one so I could train on vacation with my son. It's hard to go easy on those things.

Rode with a buddy where he did his own training intervals up a climb and I did mine. Worked out pretty well, man I was pretty cooked on the way back.

No, it was from Destination Kona in N Scottsdale. Pro was Jozsef Major.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm doing EB. Spectrum didn't feel too bad so I must be getting stronger! Was that break the one on Portola? I didn't think that would stick at all. You were with us on Canada when we broke away from the rest to chase I think. Funny how we were just chilling on the way back and suddenly realized we had to chase back on haha.

Also on the ride:
3 of us went stopped at a cop-watched stop sign and then went. The rest of the group was moseying along behind us, and we chilled out for a few minutes waiting but the group didn't come up so we started rotating and picking up the pace. We got a pretty good gap, but then I realized I had been pulling too hard on my turns. A hill came up and I skipped a turn and started to drop back. I knew I should be able to catch on again over the top so I kept pushing hard, started to close the small gap, and another dude from the main group solo bridged and BLEW by me. I thought "good, another bike" but he then went and started to pull. I caught on again for a few seconds and dropped back as a few more bridged up. I missed the sprint Lesson: don't overestimate my abilities in a small break! Another lesson from the next sprint: Timing, and timing! I was going too hard too early a couple weeks ago, and overcompensated today. I got boxed in and by the time I got out I was too far back. Overall one of the most fun Spectrum rides yet.

Oh, and I was at 0.91 IF for over an hour and a half. I guess it really was faster than usual.

90+ miles in a small group (5 of us) including a Cat 1 that used to be on our road team (he is on our CX team) and our latest wunderkind (Cat 5 to lots of Cat 2 upgrade points in his first season).

Won a sprint by mistake. I asked a friend if he wanted a lead out, but I guess I accelerated too fast. Hit and held 32 mph but no one ever came around and I was all alone at the line. My cassette is too worn for a full out sprint. I need to get a new one in the next two weeks.

Was suppose to do 3 hrs, only did 2.5 hrs. Skipped the final steady state interval since the tempo section was hard enough. First night serving at Hamilton out of the Cold plus a late night chat with the ex did me in.

The past two Sundays I have been working on my sprint technique. I hit 959w on one of my last sprints; 24w higher than my previous peak power. Considering I started the ride with somewhat tired legs and a TSB of -12.1, I'm extremely pleased. Things are finally starting to click, and hopefully I can finally break 1000w before long.

It was a meh week for me; didn't even break 100 miles. My power under 5 minutes has really improved which is probably more important than content.

New FTP PR! I r happy.

Was out at the CCSD Criterium clinic. On the practice race No one crashed in my field and my master plan of attacking off the front on the 2nd lap and doing a TT treshhold interval for the rest of the race failboated when the whole field caught me after one lap solo OTF, guess I jumped too hard for anyone to care to follow. Great clinic overall, I stuck around and asked a bunch of questions from one of the pros.

90 minutes with the juniors. It's become my regular Sunday thing. The kids ride hard and we help them with their skills. Today we worked on cornering at speed. And I get a good active recovery day.

4x5' @ 105% FTP.

Somehow it was a ~2 hour ride overall, it takes about 40 mins to get to the spot where I actually do the intervals lol. So I just spin at ~110 rpm on the way out and back, so it's not "wasted" time.

Also, forget anything I said about riding a trainer indoors to avoid the "wasted" time! I spent too long suffering in wet/cold PNW, starting to really enjoy the sun and high temps around here this time of year.
